According to the Core Research Institute, the electric vehicle industry has achieved a series of technological breakthroughs in recent years and has gradually become the hottest industry in the global technology field after mobile phones. As a veteran foundry in the mobile phone field, Hon Hai has obviously long sensed the potential and value of the electric vehicle industry and may enter the electric vehicle field. However, this time they may choose the US market where competition is relatively mild.
Recently, according to Reuters, Foxconn and US electric car startup Fisker have finalized a vehicle assembly agreement. The location has not yet been confirmed, but Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker believes that Foxconn's Wisconsin plant is one of the possibilities.
In a statement, Foxconn mentioned that it has worked with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to discuss the company's electric vehicle manufacturing plans, and is optimistic about the cooperation with WEDC and the ongoing discussions.
A WEDC spokesman said it does not comment on any possible negotiations until an agreement is signed.
Over the past year, Hon Hai has announced partnerships with Fisker, China's Byton and Geely Automobile, and Stellantis NV's Fiat Chrysler unit.
In April, Foxconn slashed its planned $10 billion factory in Wisconsin, confirming its withdrawal from a project that former U.S. President Donald Trump once called the "eighth wonder of the world" and intended to build cutting-edge flat-panel displays.
A month ago, Foxconn Chairman Liu Yangwei said that the company might manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) in Wisconsin, but it might also decide to produce them in Mexico, and would decide where to locate them this year.
