The company, through its German subsidiary Blackstone Technology GmbH, has been investing in next-generation battery technologies, including patented 3D printing technology and battery mass production research, which have been shown to provide greater energy density and more charging cycles.

Compared to traditional battery designs using liquid electrolytes, Blackstone’s 3D printing process offers the following advantages:

Significantly reduce costs.

Battery cells can be produced more flexibly.

Increase energy density by 20%.

In addition, this technology can reduce the amount of non-energy storage materials, such as copper and aluminum, by up to 10%; at the same time, it does not affect the chemical properties of the electrode.

After developing and testing this technology, Blackstone is ready to take the next step. In order to make full use of this 3D printing technology, the company plans to produce 3D printed solid-state batteries. The development process of solid-state batteries may change as a result. Compared with the traditional solid-state battery production method, the use of automated 3D printing production process can save 70% of the cost. In addition, because it does not use flammable liquid electrolytes, solid-state batteries are also safer and more environmentally friendly.

Blackstone Technologies has tested the first solid-state battery prototype it has developed. The company is currently further developing 3D printing technology to mass-produce solid-state batteries. The prototype produced proves that using Blackstone technology, battery composites, casings and solid electrolytes can be printed to meet mass production needs.

Holger Gritzka, CEO of Blackstone Technologies Ltd., said: “In addition to key markets such as the automotive industry, these 3D printed solid-state batteries can also be used in marine applications and new 5G wireless networks.”
