Defining the power of connected cars and enabling autonomous driving with an automotive Ethernet platform
(Singapore – February 25, 2020) Molex has launched its next-generation Ethernet in-vehicle communications technology for connected and autonomous vehicles , meeting the needs of connected and autonomous vehicles for adaptive applications over the network.
“The automotive industry is going through a major transformation and is facing challenges with in-vehicle communications technologies, such as adaptive applications,” said Michael Potts, chief system architect, Molex. “Molex Ethernet in-vehicle network communications solutions are the building blocks to support adaptive, cognitive features and applications in the software-defined vehicle of the future.”
Molex has been an active participant and leader in Ethernet standards alliances, including the IEEE 802 TSN, security and IEEE 802.3 working groups, and is the original developer and key driver of the IEEE 802.1DG TSN standard profile, which will be used in the draft standard for the Automotive In-Vehicle Ethernet Communications Profile.
Potts added: “The future of software-defined in-vehicle communication networks requires a system-level approach that allows the convergence of current demands for vehicle functionality with new adaptive applications, requiring smaller, more precise, deterministic signals while increasing data throughput, and we expect end-to-end latency to reach near zero.”
The next-generation in-vehicle Ethernet platform developed by Molex enables a complete vehicle ecosystem spanning hardware, software and interconnect cabling systems, enabling seamless multi-zone integration and the scalability required for future upgrades.
