The roundtable meeting on "Exploring the Development of Internet of Vehicles Ecosystem " was held in Beijing, and various parties discussed the future of Internet of Vehicles

The guests gave keynote speeches and held discussions around the trends of the Internet of Vehicles industry and the prospects of the industrial ecology . They explored topics such as the driving force behind the development of the Internet of Vehicles, legal issues related to the Internet of Vehicles, technical support for the Internet of Vehicles, application cases of the Internet of Vehicles, and the evolutionary concept of the future Internet of Vehicles. They hope to "explore the way" for the future development of the Internet of Vehicles by "taking the pulse" of the current Internet of Vehicles ecology.

The guests unanimously agreed that the development of the Internet of Vehicles requires the collaboration of government and enterprises, the integration of industries, and the drive of technological innovation. The expansion of travel scenarios needs to be based on the nature of transportation and develop safe and efficient applications with economic and social benefits. At the same time, the future Internet of Vehicles needs to pay more attention to user experience and must be people-centered. Its evolutionary direction is the ecological Internet of Vehicles.

Sober thinking behind the "Internet of Vehicles fever": both high-end and practical

In recent years, car companies have actively entered the Internet of Vehicles, seeking opportunities to break out of the circle and carry out digital transformation. Both inside and outside the industry, with the influx of numerous resources, the term Internet of Vehicles has become increasingly popular.

Facing the "Internet of Vehicles fever", Wang Xiaojing, chief scientist of the National Intelligent Transportation System Engineering Technology Research Center, shared his "cold thoughts". He believes that from the perspective of intelligent transportation, the current status of the Internet of Vehicles is "the fairy tale is beautiful, but the reality is bleak."

Wang Xiaojing believes that the main dilemma of the current Internet of Vehicles is that most of the rigid needs for travel have been covered by existing technical applications, especially mobile phone APPs equipped with 4G. Secondly, the newly proposed scenarios are not attractive and the business model is unclear. This should lead to higher and more requirements for the Internet of Vehicles: First, it is necessary to make it clear that the essence of transportation is safety and efficiency, convenience and comfort should be ranked second, and value-added consumption and entertainment should be ranked behind; second, intelligent transportation should be oriented to the implementation of applications, and it needs to have reliable and practical tests, and it must be able to "run" on the real road. Technology will eventually serve the implementation. From this perspective, there is no difference between high and low technologies. If advanced technologies cannot be implemented, they will always be empty talk.

Liu Chun, director of Tencent's autonomous driving business, also talked about Tencent's emphasis on travel safety. For example, Tencent Keen Lab's cooperation with Tesla and BMW in the field of automotive safety ensures the safety of the Internet of Vehicles and the vehicle-road collaborative system, and safeguards autonomous driving.

At the same time, technology and innovation are still crucial behind the implementation of the scene. Wang Xiaojing believes that future research and development needs to study and learn from history and the surrounding areas. At the same time, we should not be keen on term innovation, let alone put old wine in new bottles. He also believes that innovation requires "calmness": "You still have to respect the laws of scientific and technological research, product development and industrialization. There must be a minority of successes and a majority of failures. After the great waves wash away the sand, what remains is the essence. Therefore, real innovation and implementation are the way out."

He Xia, deputy chief engineer of the Policy and Economic Research Institute of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, also believes that technological innovation and development are boosters for the evolution of the Internet of Vehicles. The Internet of Vehicles should seize the opportunity of 5G, accelerate the networking and intelligence of technology, and the integration and upgrading of 5G and various emerging technologies, promote the close integration of 5G and AICDE (A: Artificial Intelligence, I: Internet of Things, C: Cloud Computing, D: Big Data, E: Edge Computing) and other technologies, give full play to the chemical effect of 1+1 greater than 2, create a one-stop new service capability, and create ubiquitous intelligent infrastructure. In addition, Hu Qingyong, deputy director of the Transportation Big Data Research Center of the Institute of Data Science of Tsinghua University, also introduced the "Compound Transportation Big Data Intelligent System Engineering" and shared application cases related to the project. He believes that data and the supporting technology behind it will bring about changes in the transportation system, but at the same time, big data in the transportation field also faces problems such as data islands, technical complexity, technical skills, and lack of coherent strategies for leadership.

Whether it is 5G or big data, the development of the Internet of Vehicles is inseparable from technological change, development and innovation, and tackling key technologies. This requires the courage to "reach the sky". At the same time, the future of the Internet of Vehicles also requires the pragmatism to "fall on the ground".

A good way to keep warm in the "car market winter": co-create an ecological Internet of Vehicles

In the travel market over the past year, on the one hand, many players have joined the Internet of Vehicles, and on the other hand, the auto market has encountered a cold winter. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, as of June this year, my country's auto production and sales have shown a year-on-year decline for 12 consecutive months. The Internet of Vehicles has become a good way to keep out the cold, but the existing Internet of Vehicles has obvious pain points. In addition to the need for government-enterprise cooperation, industry collaboration, and the spirit of "reaching the sky" and "landing", it is also necessary to evolve the travel experience to help the auto market recover.

Zhou Ping, 2018 Global DBA CMO of emlyon business school, believes that "the future of the Internet of Vehicles will be the ecological Internet of Vehicles". The future of the Internet of Vehicles needs to focus on new ecological groups, such as those born after 1995 and 2000. When focusing on the micro user experience, he believes that cars are no longer a means of transportation from one point to another, but a "person" with IQ and EQ. In the future, we will no longer operate the relationship between people and cars, but the relationship between people. In the past, the demand for cars was rational, but now it is an emotional demand. He believes that in order to enhance user stickiness and realize the evolution of "ecological Internet of Vehicles", the car-side experience needs to complete the transformation from one face for thousands of people to thousands of faces for thousands of people, and from people looking for services to services looking for people.

Zhou Ping believes that the "ecological Internet of Vehicles" requires industry "co-creation". Taking the "co-creation" of the automobile manufacturing industry and the Internet industry as an example, he believes that "cultivating cross-border talents with data thinking" will help to break through the "co-creation" bottleneck more quickly and better "integrate" people's rational and emotional needs for cars.

Based on observations of user experience, Li Rui, deputy general manager of Tencent's Internet of Vehicles R&D, believes that the application of the Internet of Vehicles now faces three major problems: first, the base of applications itself is relatively small; second, the application model of the mobile Internet cannot be simply copied; and third, the in-vehicle mobile travel scenario is a fragmented multi-service connection form.

Li Rui also shared the four evolutionary directions of the ecological Internet of Vehicles: The first direction is that the ecological Internet of Vehicles should be people-centric, and only when users are active enough can it be a true ecology; the second direction is that the ecological Internet of Vehicles should develop in the direction of cross-scenario and cross-terminal, and we must think about connecting the inside and outside scenes of the car through integrated accounts and payment capabilities; the third direction is that the ecological Internet of Vehicles must be co-built with car companies, so that the rich content service ecology can be fully adapted and organically combined with the in-vehicle scenes; the fourth direction is that the ecological Internet of Vehicles must be co-built with developers, providing developers with more convenient development tools, allowing developers to shield themselves from the complexity of vehicle hardware and software, and at the same time, provide them with scenarios for user use of services, and jointly promote the prosperity of the application of the ecological Internet of Vehicles.
