According to foreign media reports, startup Ohme Technologies said its newly launched smart charging technology can make charging electric vehicles (EVs) 75% cheaper than refueling fuel vehicles. The company said its new platform will promote the large-scale adoption of electric vehicles by significantly reducing charging costs and time-of-day electricity charges.

The company's smart-charging cable is an intelligent EV charger that can be controlled by an app. The company said that the cable can automatically select the cheapest charging period, calculate the specific amount of electricity required for the car's next journey, and charge the car battery accordingly, which can save electric car owners 400 pounds (about 3,485.88 yuan) per year.

Ohme Technologies also said its technology could reduce the cost of running an electric car to 2p/mile (about 0.2 yuan/mile), compared with about 10p/mile (about 1 yuan/mile) for petrol and diesel cars. In addition, the technology can shift charging load from the grid during peak electricity consumption times, allowing car owners to track their carbon dioxide consumption and compare it with internal combustion engine cars.

“Electric vehicle owners have been crying out for an easy-to-use, cost-effective smart charging solution, and Ohme Technologies’ technology delivers that,” said David Watson, CEO of Ohme Technologies. “We are committed not only to changing the charging landscape and facilitating the mass adoption of electric vehicles, but our technology can also significantly reduce the capacity and financial pressure on grid operators.”
