After gaining a firm foothold in the commercial vehicle fast-charging battery field, Microvast Power has begun to turn its attention to the passenger vehicle field.

At the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, Microvast Power launched three VDA standard soft-pack battery cells with different capacities, namely 52Ah, 48Ah and 44Ah, for new energy passenger vehicles.

The person in charge of Microvast Power told Gaogong Lithium Battery that the three battery cells are designed according to different needs and are mainly aimed at different application scenarios and vehicle models, including private pure electric passenger vehicles, commercial vehicle models and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Specifically, the 52Ah battery cell is mainly aimed at pure electric vehicle batteries in the private sector, with a single cell energy density of 270Wh/kg.

The system energy density can reach 180wh/kg, which can meet a cruising range of more than 400 kilometers.

At the same time, in terms of fast charging capability, the 52Ah battery cell has a 1C fast charging capability, which can charge the battery from 0% to 80% in 50 minutes. Its excellent fast charging performance is helpful to alleviate consumers' mileage anxiety to a certain extent. In addition, the cycle life of the battery cell can reach 1,500 times, which can synchronize the battery life with the vehicle life.

Compared with household consumption, electric vehicles for operation and rental are more regarded as a production tool, and their application scenarios require short charging time, long life operation, and long warranty period. They put forward higher requirements for the cycle and fast charging of power batteries.

Microvast Power has also developed products specifically for this type of electric vehicles, and launched a 48Ah battery cell at this exhibition, which takes into account both fast charging and energy density. Its energy density exceeds 225Wh/kg, and the fast charging rate reaches 1.6~1.8C, which can achieve fast charging from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes.

In terms of product life, the 48Ah battery cell can achieve a cycle life of more than 3,000 times, which fully meets the application requirements of pure electric passenger vehicles for operational purposes.

In addition, Microvast Power has also developed a 44Ah battery cell for plug-in hybrid vehicles, with an energy density of more than 205Wh/kg. In addition to 2C fast charging capability and a longer cycle life of 3,500 times, it also has up to 6C/8C high-power instantaneous charging and discharging capability, as well as a low-temperature cold start function as low as -20°C.

According to the person in charge of Microvast Power, in addition to meeting the needs of plug-in hybrid vehicles, the 44Ah battery cell can also meet the needs of high-intensity pure electric operating vehicles in cold northern climates.

Gaogong Lithium Battery learned that the above three products released by Microvast Power at the Shanghai Auto Show are its third-generation products. In addition to the energy density being improved to varying degrees, this generation of batteries also has its own exclusive "secrets" in terms of safety.

The high energy density lithium battery launched by Microvast this time uses Microvast's self-made high-safety diaphragm, which is also one of the few mass-produced high-temperature resistant diaphragms in the world. In the context of the industry's sprint to high energy density, Microvast has achieved higher safety characteristics by mass-producing such diaphragms and applying them to high energy density batteries.

In the new energy power battery industry, Microvast Power adheres to the principles of "fast charging, long life, and high safety". Its products have been widely used in commercial vehicles (buses, trucks, AGVs, mining vehicles, forklifts), energy storage and other fields. As of March 2019, it has provided power system solutions to customers in more than 160 cities in 16 countries around the world.

Gaogong Lithium Battery learned that since 2018, many car companies have begun to choose to install Microvast's battery cell products in passenger cars, including Changan Eado EV, Chongqing Lifan and other models and products.

According to a relevant person in charge of Microvast, in the next stage, Microvast plans to launch battery cell products with higher energy density of 300Wh/kg in the second half of 2019, further expanding its layout in the passenger car field. At the same time, it is also further reducing costs through technology upgrades and supply chain optimization to enhance its competitiveness in the market.
