With the vigorous development of new energy vehicles , the first batch of electric vehicle power batteries have reached the scrap period, and it is expected to reach a peak by 2020. How to deal with these scrapped batteries is imminent. At present, the recycling of power batteries mainly adopts the method of cascade utilization plus regeneration, but there are many difficulties.

Batteries, four national standards, waste battery recycling, new energy vehicle batteries

As early as 2006, relevant national departments had more or less noticed the problems of electric vehicle battery pollution and power battery recycling, and promulgated and implemented some regulations year by year. However, most of these regulations are directional instructions and are still far from being implemented and truly operational.

As new energy vehicles become more popular, the issue of waste battery pollution has gradually entered the public eye. How to eliminate the public's doubts about the environmental pollution caused by new energy vehicle batteries? Are new energy vehicles really clean or fake environmentally friendly? The formulation and promulgation of national standards for new energy vehicle battery recycling entered an accelerated period in 2017. The editor has read these regulations and shared them with you.

To sum up, there are currently four operational regulations related to power battery recycling, as follows:

Battery disassembly (GB/T 33589)

It is said that the national standard was formulated in 2013 and took four years to develop. It mainly stipulates how to disassemble battery packs and battery modules (excluding battery cells).

The national standard recommends the use of mechanical or automated disassembly, and also regulates the disassembly site, equipment, personnel operation, safety, storage and management.

According to the principles of safety, environmental protection and recycling, the battery is disassembled from the package into modules. Before disassembly, the battery needs to be pre-processed:

The national standard also clearly states that companies engaged in battery disassembly should have relevant qualifications, and disassembly personnel should hold a professional qualification certificate (electrician certificate).

I have discussed with a few friends whether to open a small battery recycling workshop, but it seems difficult at the moment...

Battery specifications and dimensions (GB/T 34013)

This national standard mainly stipulates standard specifications and dimensions for battery cells, modules, and battery packs.

Here we need to mention why standard size is needed? Because the shape and size of electric vehicle power batteries have a significant impact on battery manufacturers and even OEMs. Although the batteries on the market are of different sizes, the trend of standardized specifications and sizes is unstoppable. Therefore, the introduction of this national standard has attracted much attention in the industry.

Currently, the sizes of power batteries developed in the industry mostly refer to the standards of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). China's introduction of its own standards can be said to be a significant improvement.

However, judging from the size combinations specified in the national standard, there are 6 cylindrical size standards, 125 square size standards, and 14 soft-pack size standards, which almost cover the current mainstream power battery size specifications. So for enterprises, its practicality is relatively weak. Some people think that it is better to specify only one or two sizes. Therefore, the specific impact of the release of the national standard needs to be further judged in the future.

Battery code (GB/T 34014)

It should be pointed out that the battery coding and the unified specifications and sizes mentioned above have been listed as "urgent" priorities by the country.

The unified power battery coding ensures the traceability and uniqueness of the battery, and enables effective management of power battery production, maintenance and traceability, key parameter monitoring, and recycling.

Battery remaining energy detection (GB/T 34015)

Battery residual energy refers to the remaining energy after it is scrapped, which is the key to evaluating whether the battery is worth recycling for cascade utilization.

The national standard specifies in detail the steps for battery appearance inspection, voltage determination, charge and discharge current, and remaining energy testing.

summary

The degree of perfection and maturity of a country's automobile regulations reflects the country's comprehensive strength in the automobile industry. Whether it is energy conservation and emission reduction or overtaking on the curve, in the long run, the continuous release of regulations will make the core parts of new energy vehicles, power batteries, move towards standardization. This is a good thing for the industry, enterprises and individuals.

Finally, regarding battery recycling, our country submitted the " Interim Measures for the Management of Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles" to the WTO in October 2017 and is currently on public display. The measures further clarify that whoever manufactures power batteries for new energy vehicles is responsible for recycling, ensuring the cascade utilization and safe and environmentally friendly treatment of power batteries for new energy vehicles.
