G+D Mobile Security announced that it has won Xpeng Motors as a new customer in the electric vehicle field and will equip its new cars with smart digital car keys, providing support in all aspects from technology, solutions to services and infrastructure.
Xpeng Motors' next-generation model, a highly intelligent high-performance coupe called the P7, will be launched in China and equipped with a digital car key service provided by G+D Mobile Security. Buyers will receive two NFC (near field communication) cards as digital keys, which can open, start and close the vehicle. This makes traditional physical car keys a thing of the past. G+D's digital car key system also integrates Xiaomi's NFC solution, allowing P7 drivers to receive and share their digital car keys via Xiaomi smartphones and mobile networks.
The Xpeng P7 will be shown to a large professional audience for the first time at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show from April 18 to 25.
For manufacturers, cybersecurity is one of the most important criteria when introducing digital car key solutions. G+D provides security technologies and services for the entire lifecycle of this solution.
G+D Mobile Security Digital Car Key Solution
The digital car key solution provided by G+D Mobile Security for the Xpeng P7 consists of the following basic components:
Digital car key management server: completes the life cycle management of digital car keys, including the application, generation, distribution and authentication of car owners;
eSE (embedded secure element) in vehicles: Common Criteria EAL 5+ certification; secure storage of keys, certificates and confidential data; secure connection to service platforms and mobile devices; verification of authentication protocols and instructions;
Mobile security services: In Xiaopeng's application case, mobile security relies on the secure element in the mobile phone. For general situations where there is no secure element, the G+D solution will use Cywall, the G+D mobile security framework integrated in the smartphone environment, to safely use and manage mobile applications on connected devices; securely store digital keys and certificates using cryptographic methods; and ensure the security of the connection between the service platform and the vehicle;
TSM (Trusted Service Management) service: Dynamically and securely manage applets and credentials in the vehicle's eSE via OTA (over-the-air).
"The application areas for mobile devices are constantly expanding, and the digital car key is an example of how the market is developing dynamically. G+D Mobile Security is broadly positioned in this area and offers digital car key solutions in various form factors, such as wearables, smartphones or NFC cards, and via various access technologies, such as Passive Entry Passive Start, Bluetooth Low Energy or NFC," says Alois Kliner, Director of the Digital Enterprise Security Division at G+D Mobile Security.
"As an emerging smart car brand, Xpeng sees the collaboration with G+D as part of our pursuit of excellence in information security and service innovation," said Liu Yilin, Vice General Manager of Product at Xpeng Motors. "G+D's experience and expertise in finance and near-field communications is an important foundation for this pursuit. Through our collaborative innovation, our users can enjoy a more comprehensive driving experience."
G+D's digital car key technology, solutions and services are aimed at the global market. In China, many automotive OEMs have already applied G+D's digital car key solutions and plan to release them to the public at the end of this year or early 2020.
