e-STORAGE, the energy storage subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. (stock name: Canadian Solar, stock code: 688472.SH), announced on October 1, 2024 that it has been awarded a turnkey engineering, general contracting (EPC) contract to provide a 98MW/312MWh DC battery energy storage system (hereinafter referred to as "BESS") for the Huatacondo project in Chile. The project is jointly funded by Sojitz Corporation of Japan and Shikoku Electric Power Company of Japan.

Power Co., Inc. through its subsidiary Austrian Solar Chile Cuatro Sp (ASC4), with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

The Huatacondo project will use the latest SolBank 3.0 energy storage solution from Canadian Solar (e-STORAGE). Under the EPC contract, Canadian Solar (e-STORAGE) will be responsible for managing all civil engineering and power infrastructure of the project.

“The construction of this energy storage project is an important milestone for ASC4,” said Toshinori Kawahara, general manager of ASC4. “We are very pleased to contribute to the stable supply of electricity in northern Chile.”

Colin Parkin, President of Canadian Solar Energy Storage (e-STORAGE), said: "This will be our first energy storage project delivered in Chile and we are pleased to support the Chilean government's goal of achieving 70% of electricity coming from renewable energy by 2050. This energy storage project in the Tarapacá region of Chile not only expands our global business scope, but also demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable and efficient energy solutions to the global market.

e-STORAGE's SolBank 3.0 is known for its superior performance and safety. SolBank 3.0 is equipped with high-density lithium iron phosphate batteries, a battery management system (BMS) with active balancing function, and an advanced liquid-cooled thermal management system (TMS). Its compact design and rated energy storage capacity of more than 5 MWh per 20-foot container significantly reduce land costs. SolBank 3.0 has an IP55 protection rating to withstand harsh weather, ensuring stable operation of the energy storage system under the changeable climate conditions in the Andes region. In addition, SolBank 3.0 can work efficiently in a wide temperature range, which further enhances its durability and makes it an ideal choice for harsh environments. "
