On July 5, the 16th Gaogong Lithium Battery Industry Summit, hosted by Gaogong Lithium Battery and Gaogong Industry Research Institute, was successfully concluded at Changzhou Oriental Salt Lake City Maoshan International Conference. With the theme of "Adapting to the Situation and Creating a New Situation", the summit brought together leaders, senior executives and industry elites from upstream and downstream companies in the lithium battery industry to discuss strategies to break the deadlock in the lithium battery industry chain under the new cycle.
At the closing ceremony of the "Fast Forward in New Battery Industrialization" event, Ms. Lisa Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Mengwei Technology, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on "The Current Status and Application Prospects of Lithium Metal Battery Product Development", sharing with industry experts Mengwei Technology's exploration and thinking on the industrialization of lithium metal batteries.
"Lithium metal batteries are the ultimate solution for high-energy-density power batteries. According to the evolution path of electrode active materials, lithium metal anode is the optimal technical route." Zhou Lisha, co-founder and CEO of Mengwei Technology, said in her keynote speech.
As one of the important driving directions of energy transformation, lithium battery materials are profoundly changing and promoting the evolution and development of the times. Every innovation in material technology and every iteration of the material system are driving the continuous improvement of battery energy density. For power batteries, the battery life and performance of the product are determined by the energy density. At present, various countries, regions and governments have formulated their own power battery planning routes, and generally hope to reach an energy density of 400Wh/kg in 2025 and exceed 500Wh/kg in 2030.
"The mass production and application of new high-energy power batteries requires balancing the comprehensive performance indicators of the products, taking into account safety and energy density while significantly improving the cycle life." According to Zhou Lisha, the core team of Mengwei has conducted in-depth research on lithium-sulfur batteries and nanomaterials since 2008, and has accumulated a lot of experience in observing the growth mechanism of lithium dendrites, verifying and breaking through the battery cycle life. Relying on strong scientific research strength, in 2017, Mengwei independently developed a super-condensed electrolyte, combined with lithium negative electrode protection technology, which can effectively inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites and solve the problems of lithium metal battery application safety and side reaction consumption.
At the same time, in order to ensure mass production delivery to customers, in terms of engineering capabilities, Mengwei Technology launched an automated manufacturing line for lithium metal batteries designed for 100 MWh in September 2022. With the fully self-developed lithium metal soft-pack battery automated production technology and core equipment, it has realized automated mass production of lithium metal batteries.
At present, the energy density of the products delivered by Mengwei Technology has reached 530Wh/kg, and it can still maintain more than 90% of the capacity after 300 cycles, and after 250 charge and discharge cycles, the battery energy density is still more than 400Wh/kg. In addition, Mengwei Technology's products have the advantages of fast charging, good discharge rate performance, and the ability to adapt to high and low temperature performance. At the same time, the energy density of the company's products under development has exceeded 650 Wh/kg. The samples developed for new energy vehicles have a capacity retention rate of more than 80% after 500 deep charge and discharge cycles.
"Mengwei Technology's product-grade safe and high-energy-density lithium metal batteries have been verified by customers in a variety of unmanned aerial vehicle application scenarios. As the overall performance continues to improve, its application in new energy vehicles has also entered the industry's vision." Zhou Lisha shared that based on continuous innovation in material research and engineering technology, it is expected that by 2025, the cycle life of lithium metal battery power battery products will reach 1,000 times, which will have the basic conditions for large-scale application in the new energy vehicle market.
In the roundtable forum, Zhou Lisha and four industry partners had a heated discussion on topics such as "Technical changes in power batteries after 2025". How to achieve "fast-forward industrialization of new batteries" and how to promote the coordinated development of the industrial chain will be the breakthrough point for Chinese lithium battery companies to cope with the new situation.
In the future, Mengwei Technology will leverage its advantages in the development and industrialization of lithium metal battery materials and manufacturing technologies. While pursuing practical product innovation, it will work with industry chain partners to jointly build a collaborative innovation industry chain system and ecosystem to promote industrial upgrading and high-quality development.
