From April 18 to 21, the China Hydropower and Water Conservancy Planning and Design Institute hosted a review meeting on the pre-feasibility study report of the Gansu Huangyang Pumped Storage Power Station in Wuwei City, Gansu Province. Before the meeting, some experts and representatives inspected the project site, listened to the report on the project design results, and discussed and reviewed in groups. The meeting believed that the content and depth of the report basically met the requirements of the pre-feasibility study report preparation procedures, and agreed to pass the pre-feasibility study report review.
Huangyang Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, 196 kilometers away from Lanzhou City and 35 kilometers away from Wuwei City. The power station has a preliminary installed capacity of 1,400 megawatts, and plans to install four 350-megawatt vertical shaft reversible mixed flow pump-turbine units. The power station hub project consists of an upper reservoir, a water delivery system, an underground plant system, a lower reservoir and a ground switch station. The upper reservoir is initially planned to be an asphalt concrete panel rockfill dam with a maximum dam height of 73 meters, and the lower reservoir is a roller-compacted concrete gravity dam with a maximum dam height of 97 meters. After completion, it will mainly undertake the tasks of peak regulation, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase regulation and standby of the power system, ensuring the safe, reliable, stable and economical operation of the power system in Gansu and the transmission channel.
According to the "Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035)" issued by the National Energy Administration, the Huangyang Pumped Storage Power Station is a key implementation project of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and is included in the national 2022 pumped storage project approval plan.
