China Energy Storage Network News: On January 18, the joint optimization demonstration project of air conditioning energy consumption at three different voltage levels, namely the Xuzhou Business District 220kV substation, Pangzhuang 110kV substation and Dalizhuang 35kV substation, was put into operation. This is the first in-station air conditioning energy efficiency improvement project covering substations of multiple voltage levels in the State Grid system.

In order to thoroughly implement the company's "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" action plan and implement the spirit of the 2022 State Grid Corporation's two sessions, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. vigorously promotes the "Focus on Upgrading" special action to improve quality and efficiency, focusing on lean management and digital transformation. The Equipment Department and Marketing Department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. actively plan and coordinate, tap internal resources, and carry out comprehensive pilot work on energy optimization and technical loss reduction.

In response to the current problems of high energy consumption, low level of intelligence, and lack of interaction with the power grid in the air-conditioning systems in substations, State Grid Jiangsu Integrated Energy Services Co., Ltd. and State Grid (Beijing) Integrated Energy Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd. have established a research and development mechanism and selected three substations of different voltage levels in Xuzhou to carry out a pilot project on air-conditioning energy efficiency optimization.

In view of the energy consumption characteristics of substation scenarios, we use big data, artificial intelligence and digital twin technology to study key technologies such as air conditioning AI adaptive control and non-intrusive fault diagnosis, and develop substation air conditioning energy optimization products.

"Based on the changes in temperature and heat load inside and outside the substation, we adjust the substation air conditioning operation strategy mode and control parameters in real time through the air conditioning smart power management system and intelligent maintenance-free fresh air system. On the premise of meeting the indoor temperature and humidity index requirements of the substation, we achieve the goal of reducing the energy consumption level of the substation." Zhou Xianwei, general manager of the energy storage and products division of State Grid Jiangsu Integrated Energy Services Co., Ltd., introduced.

On this basis, the project incorporates equipment loads such as air conditioners, fans and lighting into the adjustable resource library, forming flexible adjustable resources that interact with the power grid in both directions, thereby realizing demand response functions.

"For this pilot project, the Xuzhou company and the project team overcame the pressure of the epidemic and supply guarantee to ensure the smooth implementation of the pilot project. The implementation of the project has greatly improved the intelligence level of substation auxiliary equipment and effectively reduced the workload of front-line operation and maintenance personnel. At the same time, it has improved the energy efficiency of equipment and reduced power loss in the station. It is an effective attempt at digital substation construction." Liu Yang, deputy director of the Equipment Department of State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company, said.

After preliminary trial operation tests, the comprehensive energy saving rate of the air-conditioning systems of the three substations reached 73.51% within one test cycle, reaching the expected set indicators, and passed the evaluation and certification of the third-party authoritative testing organization - China Quality Certification Center (CQC).

After the project was put into operation

It is expected that the overall energy saving rate will reach more than 40% throughout the year.

Equivalent to reducing 41.7 tons of standard coal per year

Reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 102.6 tons

In the next step, the Equipment Department and Marketing Department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. will also carry out large-scale energy optimization and transformation of air conditioners, fans, lighting and cold and heat storage devices in substations, power supply stations, business halls and other places across the province, targeting the adjustable resources in production auxiliary equipment and office buildings within the system. It will create a million-kilowatt real-time flexible and adjustable virtual power plant resource library within the system, assist in ensuring the safe supply of the power grid, deepen the practice of improving quality and efficiency, and provide new paths for exploring the realization of the "dual carbon" goals.
