According to the Information Agency, U.S. renewable energy generation doubled from 382 MWh in 2008 to 742 million MWh in 2018.
During the same period, solar power generation increased from 2 million MWh to 96 million MWh, a nearly 50-fold increase. This also means that the U.S. national grid is getting more energy from distributed and renewable resources.
The development of renewable energy continues to give rise to a wave of cross-industry giants in the United States entering the solar energy business. Musk's Tesla and industrial giant General Electric (GE) are also eager to try and may launch solar-related products to the market in the near future.
According to reliable sources: In February this year, GE Research, the central technology development department of General Electric, received a $4.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) to help develop and deploy advanced photovoltaic inverter control technology that can reliably support large amounts of solar energy connected to the grid.
This is obviously a clear signal.
Unlike Tesla, GE is more interested in the inverter equipment in the photovoltaic system. "When it comes to solar energy and other renewable resources, all energy is transmitted through the inverter," said a senior engineer of power technology at GE Research. "As the national grid gets more power from the sun and wind, it will need advanced inverters to maintain reliability."
A managing director of GE's global licensing department said, "We conducted a market survey on the American public and asked them to choose which of the many Fortune 500 brands have photovoltaic inverter products. The results are exciting. About 60% of the American public chose GE."
"This also strengthens GE's confidence in entering the solar energy business. I believe that consumers will soon be able to see inverter products with the GE logo on the market."
As we all know, after nearly a decade of wild growth, the photovoltaic inverter industry has faced increasingly fierce competition. Well-known multinational companies such as ABB and Emerson have announced their withdrawal from the photovoltaic inverter business.
However, the photovoltaic industry's imaginative growth space in the future still tempts major electrical industry giants to continue to "join the game" and fight.
This time, General Electric announced its entry into the photovoltaic inverter market. Will it become a new "disruptor" and use its long-term brand advantage in the electrical industry to open up a new situation? Or will it form a "strong alliance" with leading companies with certain market influence to jointly develop the global inverter market? The answer is very exciting!
