New Zealand police said that at 8:20 a.m. local time on March 12, an explosion occurred at a substation near Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, and smoke could be seen rising from the substation. The explosion caused a large-scale power outage in Wellington and surrounding areas.
Wellington Power Company confirmed that a total of 94,000 customers in Wellington and surrounding areas had their power supply cut off. Some buildings in downtown Wellington and some hospitals were using generators to maintain operation. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. (CCTV reporter Lin Qinghui)
