In 2019, the total installed capacity of power generation in China was 2,010.66 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%; the total power generation was 7,325.3 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%; the total electricity consumption in the whole society was 7,225.5 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 4.5% over 2018; in general, the national power production and operation were stable, and the supply and demand of electricity were generally balanced. In 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic will have a short-term impact on the macro-economy, but it will not change the fundamentals of my country's long-term positive economic development. The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic mainly depends on the duration of the epidemic and the hedging strength of national policies. After the epidemic is over, driven by various national policies and measures, the economy is expected to quickly return to its potential growth level.

1. Inventory of national power data in 2019

1. Electricity investment in 2019

According to the statistics of the power industry of China Electricity Council, the investment in power engineering construction in China in 2019 was 799.5 billion yuan, which was 2 percentage points less than the 816.1 billion yuan in 2018. Among them, the investment in power source construction projects was 313.9 billion yuan (including 81.4 billion yuan in hydropower, 63 billion yuan in thermal power, 33.5 billion yuan in nuclear power, 117.1 billion yuan in wind power, and 18.9 billion yuan in solar energy and biomass power generation), accounting for 39.2% of the total power investment; the investment in power grid project construction was 485.6 billion yuan, accounting for 60.7% of the total power investment. (See Figure 1)

2. Overall installed capacity

As of the end of 2019, the national installed capacity of power generation was 2,010.66 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%. The installed capacity of each power generation category increased to varying degrees compared with 2018, especially the total installed capacity of wind power and solar power generation, which increased rapidly, reaching 14.0% and 17.4% respectively. (See Table 1).

Among them, thermal power installed capacity is 1,190.55 million kilowatts, accounting for 59.2% of the total installed capacity; the total installed capacity of clean energy such as hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power generation has reached 819.87 million kilowatts, accounting for 40.8% of the total installed capacity (see Figure 2).

(III) Newly installed capacity

In 2019, the newly added installed capacity of power generation in national infrastructure was 101.73 million kilowatts, a year-on-year decrease of 20.4%. Influenced by relevant national policies, there was a rush to install wind power in 2019, with installed capacity increasing by 21.0% year-on-year; the newly added installed capacity of thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, and solar power generation all decreased significantly. (See Table 2)

The composition of newly installed capacity is as follows: thermal power 40.92 million kilowatts (40.2%), hydropower 4.17 million kilowatts (4.1%), nuclear power 4.09 million kilowatts (4.0%), wind power 25.74 million kilowatts (25.3%), and solar power 26.81 million kilowatts (26.4%). (See Figure 3)
