Akasol, a German manufacturer of high-performance lithium-ion battery systems, will supply battery systems for Alstom’s Coradia iLint hydrogen-powered train.
Akasol’s AKASytem AKM POC battery system will provide the critical dynamic storage component for hydrogen-powered trains, powering the electric motors.
Each Coradia iLint hydrogen-powered train is equipped with two high-performance intelligent lithium battery systems with a total capacity of 220kWh.
“The combination of hydrogen fuel cells and our intelligent high-performance batteries enables the continuous storage of electrical energy generated by the fuel cell and the dynamic absorption of high-power electrical energy recovered under braking,” said Akasol CEO Sven Schulz.
“As a pioneer in the field of hydrogen-powered trains, it is crucial to have a strategic partner at our side who will support us with key technological know-how from initial prototype development to series production,” said Dr. Jörg Nikutta, Managing Director of Alstom in Germany and Austria.
