At 3:28 on October 30, Xinjiang's first 300 MW rectifier completed the joint adjustment test at the ±800 kV Tianshan Converter Station and was successfully connected to the grid. The Tianshan Converter Station rectifier project was officially put into operation. The project can provide strong dynamic reactive power support for the sending end of the Tianshan Converter Station, and provide guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the UHV line and Xinjiang power grid.

It is understood that the Tianshan Converter Station Phase Shifter Project is a supporting project of the ±800 kV Hami-Zhengzhou UHV DC Transmission Project and is one of the first eight projects of State Grid Corporation of China that use a new generation of phase shifters. The project is adjacent to the Tianshan Converter Station and is about 24 kilometers away from the urban area of Hami. The project has a dynamic investment of 341.57 million yuan and started construction in April 2018. A total of two new generation large-capacity synchronous phase shifters were built, each with a capacity of 300 megawatts, with fast dynamic reactive power regulation and short-term overload capabilities.

The Tianshan Converter Station is located on the Xinjiang-Northwest interconnection channel. The channel is a long-chain grid structure with a long electrical distance. The AC system in the vicinity of the converter station is relatively weak. In addition, a large amount of wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy power is collected along the way. The AC bus voltage control problem of the substation and converter station after the DC fault is more prominent. The installation of phase regulators can help suppress the voltage increase in the area during DC faults, and to a certain extent suppress the transient voltage increase of wind turbines in the nearby area, thereby reducing the risk of wind turbines being disconnected from the grid.

This project is the first condenser project in Xinjiang Power Grid, and there is a lack of experience in equipment hoisting, installation, commissioning, and acceptance. State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. strengthened organization and coordination, attached great importance to construction safety, and implemented standardized management requirements in safety, quality, technology, and cost. The company innovated the management model, insisted on "bringing in and going out", arranged special personnel to go to the mainland to learn advanced management experience, and invited units with construction experience to carry out technical training on site. The weight of the condenser stator is 300 tons, and the existing machinery can only lift 100 tons of equipment.

In order to solve the lifting problem, the company finally used the innovative "wire-type hydraulic lifting device" to complete the lifting of the stator. During the project acceptance process, the company held daily defect elimination meetings to sort out defects, divide the responsible units and persons, and implement the completion status to ensure the smooth commissioning of the project.
