On September 19, 2012, the Xinduqiao-Ganzi-Shiqu power grid interconnection project in the Tibetan area of Sichuan was officially powered on, marking the farewell of the long-term isolated operation history of the power grid in the northwest of Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan. It is of great significance for the Tibetan area of Sichuan to fundamentally solve the problems of power shortage and power outage, accelerate hydropower development, and promote the transformation of resource advantages.

The "Xin-Gan-Shi" interconnection project is a key project for the "12th Five-Year Plan" power grid construction in the Tibetan areas of Sichuan. The project starts from the 500 kV Xinduqiao substation, passes through the 220 kV substation in Ganzi County and reaches the 110 kV Shiqu substation. The total length of the line is 1,015 kilometers, and the substation capacity is 2.4 million kVA. The total investment of the project is 3.215 billion yuan, and it started on March 20, 2012.

The "Xin-Gan-Shi" interconnection project crosses the Hengduan Mountains. Along the route, there is high altitude and hypoxia, complex geology, and widespread permafrost. The construction technology is difficult and the construction task is very arduous. The State Grid Corporation organized more than 13,000 construction workers to carry forward the corporate spirit of "striving to surpass and pursue excellence", constantly challenge the limits of survival and construction, and completed the construction task ahead of schedule in just 6 months.

The project is the key to breaking through the bottleneck of the development of the Ganzi power grid. It connects the northern part of Ganzi with the Sichuan main grid, and solves the long-standing electricity blind spot problem in Shiqu, Seda and other places in Ganzi Prefecture. It is of great significance to ensure that every household in the newly added farmers and herdsmen settlements in Ganzi area has electricity and social stability.
