In July 1952, the 35 kV Fengfeng-Anyang Yubei Spinning Mill Substation 35 kV transmission line was put into operation. This was the first power line put into operation in Henan Province.
On January 28, 1957, Henan’s first 110 kV transmission line - the 110 kV Zhengzhou-Luoyang-Sanmenxia power grid transmission and transformation line was completed.
On April 25, 1970, Henan’s first 220 kV line, the Danjiangkou Hydropower Plant-Pingdingshan transmission line, was put into operation.
In December 1981, the country's first 500 kV ultra-high voltage project, the 500 kV Pingdingshan-Wuchang power transmission and transformation project, was put into operation. On December 22, the Henan section of the project was successfully energized at one time.
On June 21, 1993, the Central China Electric Power Administration approved the establishment of Henan Electric Power Company. On July 24, Henan Electric Power Company was registered with the Henan Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce.
On October 20, 1997, Henan Province achieved electricity access in every administrative village.
On June 18, 2005, the 330 kV Lingbao converter station was put into trial operation, and the Northwest Power Grid was successfully connected to the Central China Power Grid. On July 1, 2005, the 500 kV Xinjia line was put into operation, and the Central China Power Grid and the North China Power Grid were officially connected to the grid. The three major regional power grids of Central China, North China and Northwest China are connected through the Henan Power Grid.
On September 24, 2007, every household in Henan Province had access to electricity.
On January 16, 2009, the 1,000 kV Jindongnan-Nanyang-Jingmen UHV AC test and demonstration project was put into operation, marking the entry of Henan Power Grid into the UHV era. On August 20, 2006, the construction of the Nanyang substation of the project started.
On January 27, 2014, the ±800 kV Hami South-Zhengzhou UHV DC transmission project was put into operation, and Henan Power Grid entered a new stage of UHV AC/DC hybrid operation. On May 13, 2012, the construction of the Zhongzhou converter station of the project started.
In July 2017, Henan Province achieved electricity access to every well in the plain areas and power supply to every village in the province.
On November 7, 2018, the construction of the ±800 kV Qinghai-Henan UHV DC project, the world's first large-scale power transmission channel built specifically for the export of clean energy, started. After completion, the project will be able to input 40 billion kWh of clean electricity into Henan every year.
