Starting from June 1 this year, Tibet once again sent surplus hydropower back to Qinghai through the Qinghai-Tibet interconnection Chaila DC system, with the maximum daily transmission reaching more than 7.8 million kWh. As of August 27, 523.72 million kWh of electricity had been transmitted. The Tibet hydropower reverse transmission plan will continue until the end of September.

Unlike previous years, this is the first time since the Qinghai-Tibet interconnection project was put into operation that the Chaila DC system has exported surplus electricity from Tibet under normal high-power operation mode.

It is understood that since the project was put into operation, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company has continued to innovate management and continuously improved the bidirectional transmission capacity of the Chaila DC transmission system through multiple tests. The transmission power has been increased from 100,000 kilowatts in the early stage of operation to a maximum of 600,000 kilowatts. At present, the bipolar power of the Chaila DC transmission system has reached 500,000 to 600,000 kilowatts, and the high-power operation of the Chaila DC has become the norm.

"To ensure the stable operation of the lines and support the reliable export of more clean hydropower resources from Tibet, the power of the Qaidam Converter Station of the Qaidam DC system is adjusted an average of 14 times a day." Li Xiaoming, stationmaster of the Qaidam Converter Station, introduced that in response to the normalized high-load operation mode of the Qaidam DC system, the Qaidam Converter Station has formulated a special operation and maintenance guarantee plan to strengthen the special inspection management of equipment, shorten the inspection cycle of important equipment, strengthen the maintenance management of the online monitoring system, and comprehensively analyze the operating status of equipment to ensure that the Qaidam DC system operates in good condition.

In recent years, while continuously strengthening the operation and maintenance management level of the Qinghai-Tibet interconnection project, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power has successively improved the transmission capacity of line channels by constructing series compensation projects and phase-shifting systems, thereby improving the safety and stability of the Northwest Power Grid and the Chaila DC system.

As of August 27, the cumulative two-way power transmission of the ±400 kV Chala DC transmission line of the Qinghai-Tibet interconnection project exceeded 9.182 billion kWh, of which 6.288 billion kWh was transmitted from Qinghai to Tibet, and 2.894 billion kWh of surplus electricity from the Tibet power grid was exported in the summer.
