The reporter recently learned that the distribution Internet of Things, as the implementation of the ubiquitous power Internet of Things in the field of power distribution, has realized the integration of the Internet of Things and the distribution network. This year, State Grid Corporation of China plans to carry out the construction of the first batch of demonstration areas in Tianjin, Shanghai, Qingdao, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and other places to realize the large-scale engineering application of key technologies of the distribution Internet of Things and the promotion of typical scene applications, and provide high-quality services to the majority of power customers.

Transformation of R&D results into reality

"State Grid has proposed to initially build a ubiquitous power Internet of Things by 2021. The power distribution field is in the main battlefield of the construction of the ubiquitous power Internet of Things due to its large scale, wide range and complexity, and faces huge challenges and opportunities." On June 26, Zhao Peng, general manager of China Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd., said at the 2019 (3rd) China Distribution Technology Summit Forum co-organized by China Electric Power Research Institute and China Electricity Council Technology Development Service Center, "We took the lead in conducting research on the distribution Internet of Things. From system architecture, communication protocols, software functional modules to security protection solutions, we have carried out in-depth research and development of the system, and worked with partners to create a new generation of intelligent distribution and transformation terminals based on domestic chips. The research and development results have been successfully transformed, and the products have been piloted in 7 units, which has improved the lean management level of the distribution network and promoted the technological progress of related industries."

It is understood that Hangzhou, as one of the first practice units of State Grid's power distribution Internet of Things, has carried out demonstration project construction in many places.

Among them, Hangzhou Qianjiang Century City is a key area for the pilot construction of the power distribution Internet of Things demonstration zone in Zhejiang Province. In mid-June, the intelligent upgrade of the power distribution equipment was completed. When a power outage occurs to a user, the intelligent distribution transformer terminal uses edge computing technology to analyze the fault data locally and send it to the cloud master station for comprehensive analysis. Before the user calls the repair phone, the fault can be accurately located and personnel can be arranged to carry out emergency repairs, shortening the fault repair time by 60% compared with the past. At the same time, the power outage information is actively sent to the user to inform the cause of the power outage and the expected recovery time.

"The core of this equipment upgrade is the installation of intelligent distribution transformer terminals and low-voltage line monitoring terminals. Through the above equipment, data such as power consumption, voltage, and current at key distribution nodes are collected to achieve comprehensive perception of power consumption information from switch station-medium-voltage distribution line-distribution transformer-low-voltage distribution line-user, and realize proactive emergency repair services for faults." Dong Wenliang, a staff member of Hangzhou Xiaoshan District Power Supply Company, introduced.

Since the State Grid launched the construction of the ubiquitous power Internet of Things, Zhejiang Electric Power has actively carried out implementation practices. Feng Xinglong, deputy director of the Operation and Maintenance Department of Hangzhou Xiaoshan District Power Supply Company, said: "We will accelerate the construction of the ubiquitous power Internet of Things demonstration area, and the first batch of 11 communities and 11,000 users will be the first to experience the changes in electricity consumption."

Continuous innovation in the construction of power distribution Internet of Things

The comprehensive demonstration of the Internet of Things in Wuzhen, Jiaxing, was listed as one of the eight key park-level comprehensive demonstration projects of the State Grid. To this end, this year, around the 2.3 square kilometers of the Wuzhen Summit venue area, the State Grid has built a data-integrated, open-shared, flexible and controllable park energy Internet ecosystem; around the new Internet of Light exhibition hall, seven scene applications such as smart buildings, microgrid systems, full perception of the exhibition hall's power distribution room, smart street lights, and electric vehicle charging without feeling payment have been completed; the Internet of Light exhibition hall has been built using VR virtual reality technology, holographic imaging and somatosensory interaction technologies; the park energy management system and the government's "Wuzhen Butler" smart city platform have been built; energy data has been used to promote the construction of digital cities, forming a "Wuzhen experience" that can be learned from, replicated and promoted.

In addition, as the official partner of the Beijing Winter Olympics, State Grid is also building a strong smart grid and ubiquitous power Internet of Things demonstration project in the Beijing New Shougang Park, establishing two major platforms for distribution operation command and integrated energy services respectively; in the Zhangjiakou Chongli Olympic core area, it is building a comprehensive demonstration of ubiquitous power Internet of Things and a panoramic holographic smart command platform to achieve intelligent monitoring of the Winter Olympic venues from the customer's distribution room to the low-voltage switches at the end of the venue, and provide timely emergency support.

China Smart Power Distribution and Internet of Things Innovation Alliance was established

The construction of ubiquitous power Internet involves multiple aspects of the "new power revolution" in people's lives, corporate production, and social development. It has received high attention and positive response from the whole society, and has provided new opportunities for promoting changes in people's lifestyles and promoting sustainable urban development.

In order to accelerate the implementation and sharing of distribution Internet of Things technology, the China Electric Power Research Institute, together with the China Electricity Council Technology Development Service Center, China Energy Research Institute (Beijing) Electric Power Research Institute and other units, jointly initiated the establishment of the "China Smart Distribution and Internet of Things Innovation Alliance" to integrate industry resources, build a public resource platform, promote distribution technology innovation and industrial upgrading, establish an intellectual property transformation platform and promote market application, and strive to create an inclusive, open, shared and cooperative industrial ecosystem.

It is also reported that relevant standards for the distribution Internet of Things are being formulated simultaneously. At present, 11 group standards such as "Technical Guidelines for Distribution Internet of Things", "Functional Specifications of Distribution Internet of Things Cloud Platform", "MQTT Protocol for Distribution Internet of Things" and the project application for two international standards, "Technical Specifications for Intelligent Distribution Transformer Terminals" and "Distribution Internet of Things: Architecture and Functional Requirements" have been completed.
