China Energy Storage Network News: Corrado Clini, former Italian Environment Minister, recently wrote an article pointing out that the "Global Energy Internet" proposed by China is expected to become the key to "decarbonizing" the global economy, improving electricity efficiency, and providing electricity to billions of people around the world who have little or no electricity.

Clini recently wrote an article in the Italian edition of the American science magazine Scientific American, pointing out that building a global energy Internet will help energy conservation, environmental protection and popularization of electricity, and Italy will also benefit from it.

The so-called global energy internet is a strong smart grid with UHV power grid as its backbone and globally interconnected. It is the basic platform for large-scale development, deployment and utilization of clean energy on a global scale. Its essence is "smart grid + UHV power grid + clean energy".

In the article, Clini introduced that China issued the "Exploration of Building a Global Energy Internet" initiative in 2015, and in 2016 promoted the establishment of the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization to plan a technical solution shared by the world and committed to "meeting global electricity demand in a clean and green way." Clini said that China's clean energy investment plays a leading role in the world, and the construction of ultra-high voltage lines is also progressing steadily.

He said that the Global Energy Internet is the first concrete technology and industrial cooperation plan covering the world in related fields, aiming to achieve universal electricity and control global carbon dioxide emissions to around 11.5 billion tons by 2050, that is, to half of that in 1990.

According to the goals of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, by 2030, the scale of power generation exported from the Arctic and equatorial energy bases will reach 920 billion kilowatt-hours, and global clean energy power generation will account for about 50% of total power generation; when the global energy Internet is basically completed in 2050, clean energy power generation is expected to account for 90% of global total power generation.

Clini also said that after decades of experiments and tests, the advantages of UHV technology in long-distance transmission such as intercontinental transmission have gradually emerged, not only with high transmission efficiency, but also environmental protection. However, it will take some time to achieve global energy interconnection, and many technologies such as clean energy utilization and storage technology, submarine cables, and smart grids still need to be improved.
