China Energy Storage Network News: On September 26, 2015, President Xi Jinping proposed the idea of building a global energy internet at the United Nations Development Summit. Over the past year, with the joint efforts of the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization and relevant parties, the global energy internet has made continuous progress. Especially in the process of building the "Belt and Road", the global energy internet has become a powerful tool for realizing facility interconnection and will achieve tangible results.

The Global Energy Internet is a basic platform for the large-scale development, transmission and use of clean energy on a global scale. The essence is "smart grid + UHV grid + clean energy". Building a global energy Internet will comprehensively improve the efficiency of global energy development, allocation and use, and achieve interconnection, mutual complementarity, mutual benefit and common development among countries.

The economic efficiency of clean energy power generation is rapidly improving

The Global Energy Interconnection Cooperation Organization believes that the conditions for building a global energy interconnection are in place. In particular, key technologies such as ultra-high voltage and smart grids have matured, and the ±1100 kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission distance can reach more than 6,000 kilometers, with a transmission capacity of 12 million to 15 million kilowatts. In addition, in terms of economy, the economic efficiency of clean energy power generation has increased rapidly. The winning bid price for photovoltaic projects in the United Arab Emirates and Chile in 2020 has dropped to 3 cents per kilowatt-hour. It is expected that by 2025, the competitiveness of wind power and photovoltaic power generation will surpass fossil energy in all aspects. Politically, mutual trust among countries has been continuously enhanced. The United Nations has formulated the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and promoted countries to sign the Paris Agreement, which officially came into effect on November 4, 2016. The global energy interconnection has been included in the policy recommendations report of the 2016 Group of Twenty Hangzhou Business Summit (B20). Responding to climate change and promoting the world's energy transformation has become a consensus and common action of all countries, creating a good political environment for building a global energy interconnection.

Effectively eliminate the population without electricity and improve the quality of development

According to relevant persons from the Global Energy Internet Cooperation Organization, in the future, it is necessary to promote the construction of energy Internet in various countries and continents in accordance with local conditions, form a new situation of interconnected development of global energy infrastructure promoted and built together, gradually realize domestic interconnection, intra-continental interconnection and intercontinental interconnection, and basically build a global energy Internet by 2050.

The core of promoting the development of global energy internet is to grasp practice and project implementation. The construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has brought rare opportunities for this. In the tide of the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Energy Interconnection Development Cooperation Organization is actively promoting the China-Pakistan power grid interconnection project. After research and communication between the two sides, engineering plans such as the China Xinjiang Kuche (or Yili)-Pakistan Lahore ±800 kV/8 million kilowatt UHV DC interconnection project and the China Xinjiang Kashgar-Pakistan Hunza ±400 kV/600,000 kilowatt flexible DC interconnection project have been formed. The Global Energy Interconnection Development Cooperation Organization has recently reached a strategic cooperation intention with the Punjab Province of Pakistan to jointly promote the project to start as soon as possible. The project has significant economic benefits. It can not only significantly reduce Pakistan's high power supply costs, but also transform my country's Xinjiang wind power and coal power resource advantages into economic advantages.

The China-Myanmar-Bangladesh and China-Myanmar-Thailand power grid interconnection projects are also under in-depth study. At present, the cooperation organizations, China Southern Power Grid and other parties have actively used the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the Greater Mekong Subregion and other cooperation platforms to vigorously promote related work, and have studied and planned the China Yunnan-Myanmar Mandalay-Bangladesh Chittagong ±660 kV/5 million kilowatt DC interconnection project and the China Yunnan-Myanmar Bago-Thailand Bangkok ±800 kV/8 million kilowatt UHV DC interconnection project. The per capita electricity consumption in Southeast Asia is only half of the world's per capita electricity consumption, and the proportion of people without electricity in Myanmar, Cambodia and other countries is as high as 68% and 66%. Lack of electricity and energy security is an important factor in economic poverty in Southeast Asia. Promoting the interconnection of power grids between China and Southeast Asian countries can help relevant countries effectively eliminate the population without electricity and improve people's livelihood security and development quality. The above-mentioned interconnection projects are all powered by hydropower in Yunnan, China, which will play an important role in alleviating the problem of water abandonment in southwestern my country. In addition, in the long run, through the continuous strengthening of interconnection between my country Southern Power Grid and ASEAN countries, it will further promote the development of regional energy and economic integration.

Many countries expressed their positive willingness to jointly build

The Mongolia-China-South Korea-Japan power grid interconnection project is also being steadily advanced. In Northeast Asia, Mongolia is rich in wind, solar and coal resources, while South Korea, Japan and other countries have large energy demands but scarce resources. Transmitting electricity to China through UHV DC and building a Northeast Asia interconnected power grid with China's eastern power grid as the hub meets the development demands of Northeast Asian countries and has significant economic benefits. Based on this consideration, in March 2016, the State Grid Corporation of China signed the "Northeast Asia Power Grid Cooperation Memorandum" with the Korea Electric Power Corporation, Japan's SoftBank Group and the Russian Power Grid Company, and established the Mongolia-China-South Korea-Japan Interconnection Project Joint Working Group in May to carry out project implementation research, and has now completed the pre-feasibility study.

Building a global energy internet, solving outstanding problems such as electricity popularization and energy supply security through the extension of large power grids and the interconnection of clean energy, has received extensive support from neighboring countries and countries along the Belt and Road, and they have expressed their active desire to build together. At the United Nations Asia-Pacific Energy Commission meeting, Thailand's Deputy Minister of Energy Buchawong said that the interconnection of power grids can achieve resource complementarity and regional balance, effectively reduce electricity prices, and benefit every country. This is a reason that no one can refuse. Indian Deputy Minister of Energy Parasad said that the interconnection of India's power grids with neighboring countries such as China can achieve a larger range of power optimization and balance, and provide India with clean, popular and low-cost power supply. Iranian Deputy Minister of Energy Farahatyan expressed his willingness to carry out pragmatic cooperation in technology transfer, equipment manufacturing, engineering design, etc., and jointly promote Iran's power trade and networking project construction with neighboring countries.
