German inverter specialist SMA has announced that it has signed a general framework agreement to supply 154 MW of central and string inverters to Turkish EPC ELSE Enerji.

Under the terms of the agreement, ELSE Enerji commits to building solar power plants across Türkiye over the next 12 months, using SMA inverters in each project.

According to SMA, most of its inverters installed in Turkey are located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, with extreme temperatures in winter - as low as -40°C and in summer above 45°C. These solar power plants are usually located in remote areas with poor infrastructure, have high maintenance costs, and are often exposed to frequent sandstorms, so ELSE Enerji favors SMA products in such challenging climate conditions, which proves the high reliability of SMA products.

“In the rapidly developing Turkish PV market, we have chosen to strengthen our cooperation with SMA due to their globally recognized reliability, consistency and high quality,” said Mustafa Herdem and Serhat Cay, founders of ELSE Enerji.

SMA Executive Vice President Sales EMEA Marko Werner added that he firmly believes that the Turkish market will continue to show high growth potential.

Despite the political uncertainty, solar PV in Turkey is expected to grow further, with the country announcing last month that it would launch a 1 GW solar tender by the end of the year.

SMA has long served the Turkish solar market and the supply deal is good news for the company, which has recently come under intense price pressure and had to lower its 2016 financial targets.
