China Energy Storage Network News: At the 2016 Future Energy Asia Pacific Summit, experts attending the summit fully affirmed the importance of energy interconnection to economic and social development and related countries, and put forward suggestions on energy supply, demand, interconnection and regional development in their respective fields.

De Chimiddorj, Director of the Strategic Planning Department of the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia:

Mongolia fully supports the construction of Northeast Asia power grid

"I am very happy to have the opportunity to attend this summit. The Mongolian government is actively committed to promoting energy interconnection in Asia." On November 1, at the 2016 Future Energy Asia-Pacific Summit, De Chimiddorj, Director of the Strategic Planning Department of the Mongolian Ministry of Energy, made it clear.

Mongolia is a vast country with a sparse population of only about 3 million, but it has abundant energy resources, including renewable energy such as wind and solar energy and coal resources. "We urgently need to convert abundant energy into electricity and transmit it to the load center in Asia. Mongolia hopes to build high-voltage transmission lines and power plants to fully support the construction of Northeast Asian power grid," said De Qimiddorj.

In Mongolia, the pace of clean transformation is accelerating. In order to promote clean transformation, the Mongolian State Great Khural amended the Energy Act in 2015, adopted incentive policies to encourage the development of renewable energy industry and mobilize the enthusiasm of domestic enterprises to develop possible renewable energy.

At the same time, cross-border energy cooperation is also an important issue in Mongolia's future energy sector. De Chimiddorj emphasized: "We are very much looking forward to cooperation in energy interconnection. The energy policy released by the Mongolian Parliament in 2015 pointed out that we need to cooperate with users of original technologies, strengthen regional cooperation, and establish long-term agreements. We hope to integrate energy with neighboring countries to promote investment in the energy sector abroad and support energy export projects."

At present, Mongolia is focusing on promoting technical discussions and preliminary project preparations to promote regional power grid interconnection in Asia. De Chimiddorj said: "We have done some basic work and preparations. The Mongolian government attaches great importance to solving technical problems through international cooperation. We actively participate in international forums and technical seminars. At the Northeast Asia Regional Power Grid Interconnection and Cooperation Forum held on October 26, we established an intergovernmental cooperation agency and an intergovernmental energy and power interconnection coordination mechanism with relevant countries. I believe Mongolia will benefit from such a framework."

Teres Suthabut, Director of the Energy Policy and Planning Department at the Ministry of Energy of Thailand:

Thailand will build an integrated interconnected power grid in Southeast Asia

Interconnection has become a hot topic in the energy industry recently. With the advancement of the Asian power grid interconnection project, Asia, as a region with rapid growth in energy demand and rapid development of renewable energy, has attracted worldwide attention. On November 1, the reporter interviewed Teres Suthabut, Director of the Energy Policy and Planning Department of the Thai Ministry of Energy, who was optimistic about the future of Thailand's power development.

"Thailand's goal is to build a system integration site for the interconnected power grid in Southeast Asia." Suthabut introduced that the Thai power grid is currently connected to the power grids of Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia and other countries. In order to build the Greater Mekong Regional Power Grid, Thailand is actively promoting consultations with Laos, Malaysia and Singapore to build the "LTMS" four-country power transmission line. "We hope to enhance the investment attractiveness along the power transmission corridor and promote local economic development." Suthabut introduced that after the project is completed, Laos' hydropower can be directly transmitted to Singapore. As a corridor country, Thailand's power supply stability will also be further improved.

It is understood that Thailand imports 6 million kilowatts of electricity from Laos every year, and sends about 3 million kilowatts of electricity to Cambodia and Malaysia. Compared with its own natural gas power generation, importing hydropower from Laos is cheaper. Suthabut said that the interconnection of power grids has allowed Thailand to enjoy the economic benefits brought by the price difference of electricity.

Suthabut introduced that according to the Thai government's plan, the Greater Mekong Regional Power Grid will eventually be connected to China's power grid to form a large interconnected power grid across East Asia and Southeast Asia, further optimizing the allocation of power resources.

Clean energy is also a major shift in Thailand's future energy system. Suthabut said that although Thailand's renewable energy installed capacity accounts for only 7% now, the country is the most active country in Southeast Asia in promoting clean energy. In the future, Thailand will vigorously develop renewable energy, especially increase the proportion of solar power generation.

Sutabut expressed the hope to have more exchanges with Chinese companies. "I once visited China's Zhangbei National Wind, Solar, Storage and Transmission Demonstration Base and was shocked. Its ability to predict wind and solar resources is worth learning from," said Sutabut.

Ye Haibo, Director of the China Office of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development:

Global energy interconnection promotes sustainable social development

On November 1, Ye Haibo, director of the China Office of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, elaborated on the far-reaching impact of energy transformation on social economy at the Asian Energy Interconnection Forum. After the forum, Ye Haibo accepted an interview with reporters.

"The idea of a global energy internet is a very beneficial exploration." Ye Haibo believes that the growth in electricity demand in Asia is very strong, but the distribution of resources is uneven, so grid interconnection has become an important solution.

"The realization of energy interconnection involves many aspects, such as policies, power grid technology, etc. The implementation of the final plan requires, to a large extent, the benefit of local governments and local business partners. The World Business Council for Sustainable Development can provide a good platform. We have a large number of member companies, including power grid companies, upstream and downstream companies, and users. We can promote the realization of the global energy Internet by helping to achieve a win-win situation for all stakeholders." Ye Haibo said.

When talking about the impact of Asian energy interconnection on Asian countries and regions that started energy development relatively late, Ye Haibo was deeply touched: "I went to India on a business trip some time ago and found that we have a lot in common. At present, China's power grid engineering technology has developed to a certain level. For countries with similar national conditions and geographical proximity, China's development experience has great reference significance. Therefore, Asian countries should strengthen communication."

Ye Haibo also talked about the driving role of energy interconnection for enterprises and industries. For example, China has made a lot of technical reserves in energy interconnection, and in this process has also opened up the market for many supporting enterprises. The same is true internationally. Local investment can drive employment. In addition, this can also solve the bottleneck problem of its infrastructure construction. "Whether from the perspective of employment, infrastructure construction or investment, the construction of the global energy Internet is beneficial to China and the destination countries. This will not only benefit the country and enterprises, but also promote the sustainable development of the entire society. We are also very willing to provide help." Ye Haibo concluded.

Wang Yimin, Secretary General of the Global Energy Interconnection Development Cooperation Organization and Assistant to the General Manager of State Grid Corporation of China:

Promoting substantial progress in cross-border connectivity

The Global Energy Internet strategy has received widespread attention. Now, from strategic conception to practical implementation, how is the construction of the Global Energy Internet progressing? On November 1, at the Future Energy Asia-Pacific Summit, the reporter interviewed Wang Yimin, Secretary-General of the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization and Assistant to the General Manager of the State Grid Corporation of China.

At this forum, the impact of the Northeast Asia power grid interconnection project on the energy structure of the Asia-Pacific region became the focus of everyone's attention. Wang Yimin said that the energy demand in Northeast Asia will increase in the future, and the energy structure that uses a lot of coal has caused serious environmental pollution problems. Under such circumstances, more clean energy must be used to meet the future growth demand for electricity.

"Large-scale networking is a means to fully utilize new energy." Wang Yimin believes that clean energy is abundant in northern China, Mongolia, and Russia's Far East. Interconnection between countries can not only meet the need for additional energy, but also provide more space for the development of clean energy. More importantly, infrastructure construction can also drive capacity utilization, improve the level of technical equipment manufacturing, and thus enhance my country's voice and influence in the world energy field. "Grid interconnection is completely consistent with the implementation of China's 'Belt and Road' development strategy."
