GE has confirmed it will supply 220 MW of central inverters to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar (000591) power plant.
The project, which is expected to expand to 5GW by 2030, has drawn attention to Dubai's solar sector. A Saudi consortium led by Abdul Latif Jameel has offered a record low solar bid of $2.99c/kWh.
The third bidding project is 800MW, for which GE will supply LV5 series central inverters, which are specially designed for performance in harsh desert conditions.
GE has arranged shipments of central inverters with Spanish EPC TSK, with delivery expected this summer. The LV5 series inverters are liquid cooled and can be used in the harshest outdoor conditions.
Muthanna said: "TSK's trust in our technology for utility-scale projects strengthens the trust of industry players in GE's solar products." In the coming years, the company is focusing on the solar potential in the Middle East. It will continue to provide innovative technologies such as the LV5 series and 1500V inverters to the region.
