On September 24, reporters learned that Boston Battery, together with Jiangsu Zhongguancun Science and Technology Industrial Park and Liyang Municipal Government, will build another "super battery cell factory" in Zhongguancun Industrial Park, Liyang City, Jiangsu Province. The total production capacity of the factory will reach 10Gwh to meet the growing domestic demand for power batteries.
Guotai Junan Securities predicts that the scale of China's power lithium battery market will reach RMB 42.1 billion and RMB 59.6 billion in 2015 and 2016. However, there is a serious shortage of domestic high-end power lithium battery production capacity.
It is reported that the registered capital of the Boston Battery "Super Factory" project is RMB 1.5 billion, and the first phase investment is RMB 5 billion. The reporter also learned that the Boston Battery Cell Factory, located in the industrial park and put into production as early as 2013, will also be expanded simultaneously, increasing the existing production capacity by 6 times.
Industry insiders have noticed that compared to other international competitors, which need at least two years to announce the establishment of factories in China and achieve large-scale production, Boston Battery has already made its layout in the Chinese market two years in advance. Observers analyzed that the first mover will benefit the most, and Boston Battery is expected to become a world-class electric vehicle power system expert in China.
On February 16, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued the "Implementation Plan for the Key Special Project of New Energy Vehicles in the National Key R&D Program (Draft for Comments)", which proposed quantitative targets for new energy vehicle power batteries. The plan requires that the single-cell specific energy of car power batteries reach 200 watt-hours/kilogram by the end of 2015, double that of 2010; and reach 300 watt-hours/kilogram by 2020, with the overall level remaining in the top three in the world. Therefore, the development of high-energy-density, long-life and high-safety energy-type batteries has become a trend in the industry.
