PV inverter manufacturer SMA has launched its first DC arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) PV inverter and has received UL certification.

The new SunnyBoy AFCI inverter models include 3000-US, 3800-US, 4000-US, 5000-US, 6000-US, 7000-US and 8000-US, which can detect and extinguish arc faults, have passed UL1699B testing, and comply with the photovoltaic requirements of Section 690.11 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) of 2011. The integrated design of the inverter does not require additional installation equipment.

The inverter also features SMA's patented OptiCool active temperature management system and an outdoor-grade, rugged aluminum housing.
