Solar3D, a California-based company, recently announced that its research team has completed a new three-dimensional solar cell design. The company said that based on this achievement, it is expected to produce a test prototype by the end of this year.
"The completion of the prototype design is a key milestone in our launch of a new generation of solar cells. Our team spent a year on R&D and simulation. Our three-dimensional solar cells will impact the entire industry and change the way consumers think about solar power generation and applications," said Jim Nelson, CEO of Solar3D.
Solar3D's new cells use a three-dimensional micro-photovoltaic cell structure to collect light energy, where photons are repeatedly reflected until they are absorbed and excite electrons. "Our goal is to make solar energy affordable and accessible to the world. Our new cell design will make solar power generation more economical than traditional power generation methods and have many other advantages," said Nelson. "Our designs are all guided by suitability for large-scale production. The products we designed are not only more efficient but also meet the requirements of low-cost large-scale production."
