Professor Kang Junyong's research team from the School of Physics and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Xiamen University has recently developed a new type of solar cell. This cell uses zinc oxide and zinc selenide, two wide-bandgap semiconductors, as materials, and has more stable performance and longer life.

It is reported that this "zinc oxide/zinc selenide quantum coaxial solar cell" has the highest open circuit voltage of 0.7 volts and maximum external quantum efficiency of 9.5% compared with similar international semiconductor devices. Next, the research team will further improve the battery in terms of resistance, electrodes, etc. to achieve the best state.

It is reported that the wide bandgap semiconductor is applied to solar cells for the first time in the world. Recently, the British Royal Society of Chemistry's Journal of Materials Chemistry published this achievement, which attracted wide attention. More than a dozen science and technology websites such as the US Science and Technology Daily reported and reprinted this achievement.
