Atmel® Corporation announced that the 2009 AVR Theme Innovation Design Competition, sponsored by Atmel China and hosted by Hangzhou Dianzi University, was successfully concluded on November 16 on the campus of Hangzhou Dianzi University.

This competition awarded 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes. The first prize was won by Hangzhou Dianzi University. Professor Xue Anke, President of Hangzhou Dianzi University, and Mr. Yu Yangjia, Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific and Japan of Atmel, were invited to present certificates, bonuses and prizes to the winning students on the campus of Hangzhou Dianzi University. Mr. Zhang Qingxiang, Sales Director of North China, East China and Central China, Dr. Yin Yiyan, General Manager of China, and Ms. Jiang Ning, University Program Manager of Atmel, attended the award ceremony.

Atmel has been committed to the Chinese market for the past 15 years. As part of the Atmel University Program, the 2009 AVR Theme Innovation Design Competition further strengthens this commitment. This competition is a prelude to the Atmel China AVR University Partner Program to be launched in 2010, which indicates that the company will strengthen its cooperation with Chinese universities, increase its investment in Chinese universities, bring Atmel's advanced microcontroller solutions into Chinese university teaching, and help China's semiconductor and electronics industries cultivate more and better R&D reserve forces that combine theory with practice.

Mr. Yu added: "To strengthen cooperation with Chinese universities, Atmel will launch a new China AVR University Partner Program in 2010, aiming to provide Chinese universities with the latest application-level solutions based on AVR microcontrollers, so that college students can understand the latest Atmel technology frontiers including the world-leading ATMEL TOUCH technology, help engineering students understand where the knowledge they have learned can be applied in the industry, and cultivate more R&D engineers with rich theoretical and practical experience for the future industry. For this purpose, Atmel has set up a university planning department in China and hired experienced managers to be responsible for cooperation with Chinese universities. As a leading global microcontroller solution provider, Atmel will continue to expand and enhance its strength and services throughout the Chinese market."

Professor Xue Anke said: "For universities of science and engineering, it is very important to keep in touch with and understand new technologies and trends in the industry. Hangzhou Dianzi University has been exploring appropriate forms and methods to integrate the latest technologies into its teaching. Atmel is a well-known leader in microcontroller solutions in the industry. This cooperation well reflects the theme of bringing new knowledge and technologies into university education. The successful cooperation between Hangzhou Dianzi University and Atmel in teaching, scientific research and competition is a practice of the engineering education concept. It enables science and engineering students to understand the application of their knowledge in the industry while learning theoretical knowledge, and provides a platform and opportunity for the cultivation of students' innovative ability, improvement of their comprehensive quality and the formation of team spirit. We hope that more similar cooperation with Atmel will appear on the campus of Hangzhou Dianzi University in the future."
