Synaptics automotive haptic technology door handles can recognize fingerprints

Nowadays, many technology companies regard the automotive field as one of the future development directions. With their efforts, future cars will have more and more high-tech functions. Synaptics recently demonstrated a series of touch-based technology products they developed specifically for cars, such as biometric touchpads and fingerprint readers that can be used for vehicle ignition and handlebars.

According to Huibert Verhoeven, senior vice president and general manager of Synaptics, "many global automakers" have shown interest in their technological achievements in "human-machine interface" and have contacted them. In the future, they will bring their series of innovative technologies to the automotive industry.

Synaptics said it wants to provide a "superior user experience" in accessing, creating and sharing digital content. To achieve this, it will use tactile technologies including touch screens, fingerprint readers and biometric sensors, all without adversely affecting driving safety.

Door handles, steering wheels and start buttons are areas where Synaptics is particularly interested. Fingerprint readers and biometric sensors will allow cars to recognize who is driving and automatically load preset preferences, such as seat and mirror adjustments or entertainment preferences.

In the video released by Synaptics, you can see how their technology is used in cars. In the near future, these technologies should be gradually added to cars, assuming that car manufacturers approve them.
