1. What is low temperature lighting?
Low temperature lighting refers to the use of artificial light sources for lighting in places where the ambient temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, such as refrigerators, freezers, refrigerators, low temperature factories, outdoor lighting, etc. In the past, fluorescent lamps were the main source of low temperature lighting, but now LED light sources also have a place in low temperature lighting.
2. Problems when using fluorescent lamps for low-temperature lighting
Although fluorescent lamps can reach 90lm/W at normal room temperature, which is considered a high-efficiency light source, they show many disadvantages in terms of luminous efficiency, illumination and aesthetic design when they enter low-light environments. Even if some manufacturers have launched special low-temperature fluorescent lamps to solve the luminous efficiency problem, they still cannot take into account the requirements of illumination and aesthetics. And the price is also very expensive. In a low-temperature environment, the luminous efficiency of ordinary fluorescent lamps can even be halved, and the service life will also be shortened. Even if we do not consider the problem of uneven illumination of fluorescent lamps in low-temperature environments, we must also consider the problem of insufficient light color and color rendering due to fluorescent lamps, because it cannot show the best color of the product and cannot achieve the purpose of attracting consumers.
3. Several advantages of LED in low temperature lighting
Compared with CCFL fluorescent lamp cold light source, LED has special advantages in low temperature lighting. First, LED can start instantly even in low temperature environment of -40 degrees Celsius and does not require special circuit or program design. Second, the luminous efficiency of LED is almost unaffected in low temperature environment, and may even be better than that in normal temperature environment. Third, LED is a point light source with the characteristics of small size and directional light. It can be placed in places such as refrigerators and display racks according to design requirements. And LED can provide sufficient uniform illumination to better see the goods and labels. Fourth, the light color, color temperature and color rendering of LED are variable. According to the different lighting requirements of different goods, the appropriate LED light source can be selected to attract consumers. Fifth, the difference between LED and CCFL before power supply, CCFL first needs to pass through the buck-boost DC/DC converter, which will consume 10% of the power, and then through the inverter, it will consume another 25% of the power, and finally the power provided to the fluorescent tube is only about 70%. But LED can be directly powered by LED Driver, making the efficiency of the entire transformer circuit as high as 90%, which has a great energy saving advantage.
4. Future development prospects of LED low-temperature lighting
LED low-temperature lighting was first developed in 2002 by GELCORE and the LRC Lighting Research Institute of the United States. Currently, Taiwan-based LED packaging giants Everlight and Lite-On have both launched LED low-temperature lighting products. In 2008, some manufacturers launched household refrigerators with LED fresh-keeping technology, and the prospects are very promising. According to incomplete statistics, the global shipments of refrigerators and cold storage/freezers alone average hundreds of millions per year. If only five high-power LEDs are implanted in each unit, then the demand will be a huge market. With the increasing international calls for environmental protection and energy saving, it is estimated that LED low-temperature lighting will occupy the market share of low-temperature lighting systems with its greater advantages.
