UPS
configuration:
lead-acid batteries
Since they are cheap and can be made into large capacity, almost all UPS configurations are fully sealed and maintenance-free lead-acid batteries. UPS is divided into standard machines (5-15 minutes) and long-delay systems (0.5-24 hours) according to the length of battery configuration time. The battery configured in the standard UPS is fully discharged in 5-15 minutes, and the discharge current ratio is very large (3C-4C). This requires that the battery configured in the standard UPS must have a very strong high-rate and large-current discharge performance. This requires that the positive plate of the battery must be a multi-element master alloy grid (such as Pb-Al-Sb) with good high-current discharge performance. Only batteries with this type of plate can ensure a long service life in the configuration of the standard UPS. Ordinary lead-calcium batteries used in standard UPS have a short lifespan, and the manufacturer generally promises a one-year warranty. The battery configured in the long-delay UPS has relatively superior use conditions, belongs to low-rate and small-current discharge, and generally has a long service life. It is generally no problem to maintain a capacity of more than 65% within 3 years of floating charge. Therefore, the requirements for the battery configured for long-delay UPS are relatively low.
(2) EPS matching:
EPS emergency power supply
Generally, there is a battery strong start function, and the discharge voltage is not protected by cutoff. Ordinary lead-calcium batteries can easily be exhausted and cannot be recharged. This requires that the battery used in EPS must have a strong deep discharge performance. Low-antimony lead-antimony lead-acid batteries are both cheap and can meet the requirements of EPS battery strong start function, which is more suitable for EPS power supply configuration. Ordinary pure lead-calcium batteries have a short lifespan in EPS matching, and are generally scrapped after a few times of strong start mode.
Nickel-cadmium batteries
or
nickel-metal hydride batteries
Although they have strong deep discharge performance, they are too expensive to be applicable.
(3) Instrument matching: The battery used in instruments is generally not large in capacity. In addition to emphasizing battery capacity and life, the self-discharge performance of the battery and the full sealing index of no leakage are also emphasized. Because instruments and meters are not used most of the time, their built-in batteries are in an idle state. Batteries with large self-discharge will run out of power when idle for a long time, and will be out of power when used, so they are not conducive to this use.
(4) Use in vehicles: The main purpose of batteries in vehicles is to start ignition, which requires the batteries to have strong high-rate and high-current discharge performance. There are currently two types of batteries used in vehicles, namely open-filled and flooded type and fully sealed maintenance-free type. The open-filled positive plate is designed with a high-antimony lead-antimony alloy grid (requires frequent maintenance and refilling), while the fully sealed maintenance-free type battery for vehicles requires the positive grid to be a multi-element master alloy type. This fully sealed type is more commonly used in expensive cars or electric vehicles, because the open-filled type (i.e., ordinary car batteries) will produce more acid mist during charging to corrode the metal parts of the car body, and it is also inconvenient to frequently add liquid for maintenance. Ordinary pure lead-calcium fully sealed maintenance-free batteries are not suitable for use in vehicles, otherwise the battery life will be greatly shortened.
(5) For electric toys: In addition to meeting general performance requirements, batteries used in electric toys also emphasize safety under earthquake-resistant conditions. For lead-acid batteries, it is particularly important that they do not leak when placed in a bumpy environment, that the internal air pressure is safe, and that the shell crack resistance is strong.
(6) For communication equipment: Communication batteries are generally fixed large-capacity single-cell fully sealed maintenance-free lead-acid batteries. Industry requirements place great emphasis on the long-term service life of batteries. Large-capacity single-cell lead-acid batteries generally have a service life of 8-15 years.
(7) For civil inverters: Civil batteries emphasize the economical cost. Generally, open-type flooded lead-acid batteries (i.e., car batteries) produce acid gas during charging, which can affect human physical and mental health indoors. Therefore, it is not recommended to use this type of battery indoors, and fully sealed maintenance-free batteries should be used, unless the open-type flooded battery is placed in a ventilated room with smooth airflow or in a corridor, balcony, etc.
