Companies collaborate to develop high-performance energy storage and solar string inverter solutions for a sustainable future
May 16, 2023 - ON Semiconductor, a leader in smart power and smart sensing technologies, announced that Sineng Electric will integrate ON Semiconductor's EliteSiC silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs and IGBT-based high-density power integrated modules (PIMs) in its utility-scale solar inverters and industry-leading 200 kW energy storage system (ESS) . The two companies have collaborated to develop optimization solutions that will maximize the performance of solar inverters and energy storage converters.
The EliteSiC-based utility-scale string inverter launched by Sineng Electric in cooperation with ON Semiconductor has more flexible installation options, lower maintenance costs and shorter downtime than centralized inverters. Sineng Electric uses ON Semiconductor's highly optimized single-stage multi-level PIM in its 200 kW ESS to achieve industry-leading system energy efficiency and lower total cost of ownership.
Wu Qiang, Chairman of Sineng Electric, said: "ON Semiconductor helps us solve the most challenging technical problems, such as system design, simulation, thermal analysis and control algorithms. We use ON Semiconductor's highly energy-efficient EliteSiC products to develop and implement cutting-edge renewable energy solutions based on the specific needs of our customers. In addition, ON Semiconductor's end-to-end SiC supply chain provides supply guarantees for our long-term development."
The two companies will continue to collaborate on the development of innovative high-power products to enable more renewable energy solutions. At the same time, Sineng Electric will adopt more EliteSiC products to gain advantages in energy efficiency and scale.
“With the strength of ON Semiconductor’s high-performance products and Sineng Electric’s expertise in power electronics system design, we are committed to continuously improving overall system energy efficiency, which will play a key role in moving towards a net-zero emission future,” said Asif Jakwani, senior vice president and general manager of ON Semiconductor’s Advanced Power Division.
The two companies expect to extend the Long-Term Supply Agreement (LTSA) signed by the two parties at the end of 2022, further demonstrating their collaborative and innovative partnership.
