TDK Corporation announced that Clarivate has recognized TDK's innovation and leadership in the digital transformation (DX) and energy transformation (EX) of the smart society by listing TDK as one of the top 100 global innovators in 2021. TDK has been on the list for seven consecutive years, during which time TDK has continued to advance in electronics innovation and has made digital transformation and energy transformation a key component of the company's growth and value. This recognition further strengthens TDK's position as an industry-leading solution provider and an ecosystem partner for customers to create revolutionary technologies.
Clarivate Analytics selected the top 100 innovative institutions from more than 14,000 organizations based on four main indicators. These four indicators include the number of patents and the total number of patents in the past five years, the impact of patents on downstream patent applications, the success rate of patent applications and patent authorizations, and the globalization of patents. In this selection, TDK received high praise, especially in terms of "the success rate of patent applications and patent authorizations."
"Going forward, we will continue to increase the impact of the intellectual property portfolio created by each TDK Group company, realizing technologies and processes that only TDK can provide," said Osamu Hikita, Corporate Executive Officer, Head of Production Technology Division, and General Manager of Intellectual Property Center, Technology and Intellectual Property Division. "We will promote digital transformation and energy transition through the adoption of cutting-edge products produced with unique technologies and processes, and contribute to solving social issues."
TDK was founded in 1935 on the basis of mastering materials science. Since then, the company has been pushing the boundaries of digital, energy and social transformation. In 2020, TDK released a range of industry-leading solutions, including the InWheelSense™ automotive sensor platform, miniaturized automotive power inductors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors and multilayer ceramic capacitors, noise suppression filters, and a MEMS-based sensor platform for detecting carbon dioxide levels in applications such as home, automotive, IoT, and healthcare.
TDK, through its CVC TDK Ventures, has invested in a number of materials science companies to learn more about emerging markets and technologies and ultimately create new solutions for digital transformation and energy transition.
With a wide range of electronic components and large-scale manufacturing solutions, TDK's comprehensive product portfolio spans passive components as well as customized products such as sensors and energy devices, the latter of which are widely used in various fields such as automotive and industrial electronics, communication technologies, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
