A brief discussion on the design and advantages of EPS emergency power supply

  EPS emergency power supply can be said to be an emerging industry that has developed rapidly in the past two years. Compared with the mature UPS, it has similarities and differences. The similarities are that both have the function of continuing to provide AC power to the load in the event of a mains failure (interruption), and both use IGBT inverter technology and pulse width modulation (PWM) technology.

  The difference is that in addition to providing uninterrupted power supply, UPS also has the function of improving the quality of the mains power, while EPS emergency power supply mainly solves the emergency power supply problem when the mains power fails; UPS mainly provides power supply for IT industry equipment, while EPS emergency power supply is suitable for various industries; UPS power supply mode requires a very short switching time (0~10ms), while EPS emergency power supply is relatively wide (0~0.25s); UPS mainly carries computer loads, while EPS emergency power supply carries mixed loads; UPS has high requirements for the operating environment, while EPS emergency power supply requires adaptability to various environments; UPS is mainly for general user monitoring, while EPS emergency power supply is mainly used for emergency power supply, requiring linkage with fire protection; UPS is mainly for the purpose of maintaining smooth information transmission, while EPS emergency power supply is mainly for preventing major disasters and accidents. It can be figuratively described that UPS is mainly for "saving data", while EPS is mainly for "saving people". Generally, EPS has a large power, and the inverter inside the machine is in standby mode.

  In view of the fact that the main design concept of EPS emergency power supply is to provide safe and reliable emergency power supply when the city power is suddenly interrupted, and to effectively avoid personal injury and property loss when disasters occur, the safety, reliability, applicability and rationality should be considered when designing EPS. The main factors are:

  1) The power-off conversion time is generally in milliseconds (2 milliseconds-250 milliseconds), depending on the load characteristics to ensure the timeliness of power supply;

  2) Strong load adaptability, including capacitive, inductive, and mixed loads, and strong overload and impact resistance;

  3) Multiple outputs to prevent failures caused by single output;

  4) There are fire linkage and remote control signals, which can be switched between manual and automatic;

  5) It has strong environmental adaptability and is suitable for various harsh environments. It has measures to prevent high and low temperatures, humidity, heat, salt spray, dust, vibration and rat bites;

  6) Long service life, fast battery charging and management capabilities;

  7) Energy saving, high operating efficiency and low operating cost;

  8) It has unattended and automatic operation functions;

  9) The alarm function is complete and can provide timely alarms for various abnormal conditions;

  10) It has a strong starting function to avoid failure to start after battery protection;

  11) No smoke, no noise, no pollution, etc.;

  12) Simple maintenance and low maintenance cost.

EPS emergency power supply is a high-tech environmentally friendly product produced   by applying inverter technology, CPU control, digital circuit, and highly integrated electronic components . It is mainly composed of inverter, auxiliary power supply, rectifier charger, battery , controller, etc., providing the second or third power supply for primary and secondary loads and particularly important electrical equipment, fire protection facilities, emergency lighting, etc. EPS is easy to maintain, can be unattended, can be linked to fire protection, automatic operation, and can also achieve remote or building intelligent monitoring. Its start-up time is 0.1S, which is much shorter than the start-up time of diesel generator sets , and the total investment is similar to that of diesel generator sets. The general working principle of EPS emergency power supply : when the mains input is normal, the normally open contact of the relay is closed, and the mains intelligently charges the battery through the charger . When the mains is interrupted or abnormal, the controller starts the frequency converter or inverter, and at the same time controls the normally open contact of the relay to close, and the DC of the battery is converted into AC power through the frequency converter or inverter to supply the load. This machine adopts IGBT devices, SPWM inverter technology and advanced intelligent CPU control, with simple structure, reliable performance, sine wave voltage and frequency output, automatic switching, fire linkage, mainly suitable for evacuation lighting, emergency lighting, water pumps, fans, etc. Our company provides centralized emergency power supply, which can be installed in hanging, embedded and floor-standing types, and the emergency time is generally 90 minutes.

  EPS emergency power supply has many specifications. According to the input mode, it can be divided into single-phase 220V and three-phase 380V; according to the output mode, it can be divided into single-phase, three-phase and single-phase, three-phase mixed output; the installation form has three types: floor-standing type, wall-mounted type and wall-mounted type; the capacity ranges from 0.5KW to 800KW; according to the service object, it can be divided into two types: power load and emergency lighting; its backup time is generally 90-120 minutes, and if there are special requirements, the backup time can be configured according to the design requirements. Therefore, EPS emergency power supply can meet the needs of general projects.

  When using diesel generators, many issues need to be considered. When designing a diesel generator room, a series of issues need to be considered: the size of the diesel generator room, the transportation channel of the unit, the setting of the air inlet and exhaust vents and flues, and in addition, an environmental protection company must be asked to conduct a special environmental protection design for the diesel generator room so that the noise it produces and the smoke it emits meet the requirements. And when doing fire protection design, because of the presence of diesel generator sets , a CO2 gas fire extinguishing system must be added. Therefore, every time a diesel generator set is designed, it must be repeatedly coordinated, considering both the beauty of the building and the requirements for the operation of the diesel generator set.
