The so-called "hard" and "soft" of LCD technology actually refer to the LCD screens of computers or TVs. According to the identification method provided by the promoter, you can press or scratch the surface of various LCD screens with your fingernails. If a watermark-like shadow appears, it is a "soft screen". If the shadow is very light or almost non-existent, it can be called a "hard screen".
In fact, the so-called hard screen is to add a layer of highly transparent organic glass material to the LCD screen. Its advantage is that it can protect the screen from damage to the greatest extent under the premise of meeting the workmanship standards (without causing picture distortion and affecting the color effect of the picture), and it is also resistant to dirt. After all, it is troublesome to clean up the dirty LCD screen. It is much easier to clean up after adding the panel, especially for families with children, where fingerprints are the easiest to leave traces. Of course, the hard screen also has disadvantages, which increases the cost, and the screen will reflect light under strong light, so it has higher requirements for the viewing environment.
Disadvantages: Hard screen technology is to add a layer of transparent resin material with high hardness to the outside of the LCD screen. The process technology is very high. If the outer film and the screen are not attached carefully, the repeated expansion and contraction after powering on will cause image distortion and affect the image quality. If the light transmission performance of the attached outer screen protective film is not good, it may also affect the color effect of the picture.
Here, we consumers must be careful not to be fooled by these so-called "new terms". The "soft" and "hard" promotion disputes that manufacturers and merchants have been escalating have often made consumers hesitant and difficult to adapt to. However, in response to consumers' inquiries, many LCD TV manufacturers said that they had never known that LCD screens were divided into soft and hard. In the many standards for LCD screen quality issued by the international, domestic or industry, "soft" and "hard" have never been listed as a major standard for identification or distinction between good and bad. "It is purely artificial hype by merchants to attract customers!"
Current status of soft and hard screens
Chen Qiliang, director of the Liquid Crystal Branch of the Chinese Physical Society, is divided on whether "soft" or "hard" is better, that is, in the production and processing of LCD panels, glass or resin protective films have indeed been added, and the bonding technology with the LCD screen is no longer a problem, and light transmittance is not a problem. However, "soft screens" without protective films are not necessarily inferior, because facts have proved that as long as you use them with care and do not use gravity to hit or scratch with sharp objects, the LCD screen will generally not be damaged. Experts from the city's electrical appliances industry and the city's Consumer Protection Committee believe that whether it is "soft" or "hard", it should not and cannot be the only criterion for determining product quality and consumer purchase choices. Similarly, the corresponding promotional calls should not be infinitely exaggerated and generalized.
