Based on the above characteristics, manufacturers of valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries have shifted from a product-centric approach to a market, customer and application-centric approach, providing users with different solutions based on different usage methods and different battery types to meet different user conditions and needs.
1 Valve-controlled seal Lead-acid battery Application as power source
When valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries are used as power starting power sources, there are usually no strict requirements for the balance of battery voltage, but there are high requirements for the discharge characteristics of the battery. For example, starting batteries used in cars and locomotives require good instantaneous impact high current discharge performance at low temperatures; batteries used in DC panels require good short-term, high current discharge performance; batteries used in solar power generation systems require a high number of cycle charge and discharge times, as well as good deep discharge and fast recharge performance for more than ten or even dozens of hours.
2 Application of valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries as backup power sources
When valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries are used as backup power sources , their reliability requirements are very high. For example, in the communications industry, when the mains power supply for load equipment is suddenly interrupted, even if important occasions are equipped with diesel generator sets, before the generator starts running normally, only batteries can be used to ensure that the load equipment is powered on; many occasions do not have matching diesel generators, and can only rely on batteries to discharge for a long time to power the load. Such batteries are required to have good voltage balance, long discharge time, long service life, and the battery capacity cannot fail suddenly at an early stage.
The battery that comes with UPS is a backup power source. There are two discharge modes when using it: high rate discharge and nominal time medium rate discharge. Among the backup power sources, there is also a type of battery used for emergency lighting, which is characterized by requiring a higher volume-to-capacity value and a higher weight-to-capacity value.
From the perspective of the insulating material between the positive and negative electrodes of the battery, it can be divided into glass wool absorption type and colloid type. The glass wool absorption type battery has a high discharge rate, good battery voltage balance, and high gas recombination rate; the colloid type battery has a low self-discharge rate, low plate corrosion rate, the electrolyte is not easy to stratify, the low-temperature discharge performance is good, thermal runaway will not occur, the colloid separator will not have elastic fatigue, and the battery can be moved for use.
3 Conclusion
The above description shows that no battery is omnipotent. Users should fully master and understand the performance of valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries in daily practical applications, and provide users with comprehensive solutions with the best cost-effectiveness based on their actual conditions.
