The oscilloscope itself is an electronic measuring instrument that can only accept lower voltage input. The function of the oscilloscope high voltage probe is to convert high voltage into low voltage for oscilloscope measurement and analysis. The oscilloscope high voltage probe generally uses a differential probe, and its output differential mode voltage is very small, but the common mode voltage is still very high. When measuring, it is necessary to pay attention to the insulation between the operator and the oscilloscope and the ground.
From the actual needs, the most commonly used oscilloscope probe is the voltage probe, among which the high-resistance passive voltage probe accounts for the largest part. The high-voltage probe mainly uses the attenuation method, such as: 100x, 1:1000, that is, 1000X attenuation or ratio. When the signal is connected to the oscilloscope, multimeter, computer, etc., because the above equipment cannot withstand 800V or even higher voltage, the voltage must be attenuated by the high-voltage probe (only the voltage is reduced and other parameters remain unchanged) to the measurable range of the equipment in order to accurately test it.
