Collaboration helps ease industry transition to open, virtualized radio network architecture
Beijing, China, June 22, 2021 – Analog Devices, Inc. and Keysight Technologies, Inc. today announced a collaboration to accelerate network interoperability and compliance testing of Open RAN radio units (O-RUs).
The two parties will collaborate to build a robust test platform to verify the interoperability of the new O-RU, including ADI's low-PHY baseband, software-defined transceiver, power supply, and clock integrated with Intel© FPGA. Keysight's Open RAN simulation, signal generation and signal analysis capabilities will be applied to a wide range of use cases to improve the test process, reduce complexity and shorten test time.
“We are pleased to collaborate with ADI, a leader in O-RU technology solutions, to help service providers realize the full potential of the O-RAN specification,” said Kailash Narayanan, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Commercial Communications Division. “Keysight and ADI provide technology and test solutions that create an effective bridge between the radio unit and the core network, accelerating development and interoperability testing.”
Dell-Oro Group predicts that open RAN technology will account for more than 10% of the total radio access network market by 2025. The collaboration between ADI and Keysight helps provide business opportunities for the industry to transition to an open, discrete and virtualized RAN (vRAN) architecture.
“By bringing together ADI and Keysight’s combined technologies, tools, and design resources, we are able to provide the O-RAN ecosystem with a robust platform to accelerate the development of reliable O-RUs,” said Joe Barry, vice president of the Wireless Communications Group at Analog Devices. “Together, we are providing customers with the fastest path to developing O-RAN-enabled O-RUs that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and interoperable.”
The Open RAN infrastructure based on the O-RAN Alliance's open interfaces enables mobile operators to create a robust multi-vendor network environment to provide advanced 5G services to manufacturing, finance, transportation, logistics and healthcare companies. From the RAN edge to the 5G core (5GC), O-RU performance verification and interoperability testing between network elements enable mobile operators to efficiently deploy O-RAN in multi-vendor 5G networks.
