After making the network cable, how to test whether it is connected, we need to use a "network tester". This experience will teach you how to use an ordinary network tester to test the network cable.
A network tester is also commonly called a professional network tester or a network detector. It is a portable, visual intelligent detection device that can detect the operating status of the physical layer, data link layer, and network layer defined by the OSI model. It is mainly suitable for LAN fault detection, maintenance, and integrated wiring construction. The functions of the network tester cover the physical layer, data link layer, and network layer.
How to use a network cable tester
Plug the crystal plugs at both ends of the network cable into the RJ45 ports of the main tester and the remote test end respectively, and turn the switch to "ON" (S is the slow gear). At this time, the indicator heads of the main tester and the remote test end should flash one by one.
1. Test of direct connection: When testing direct connection, the indicator lights of the main tester should flash one by one from 1 to 8, and the indicator lights of the remote test end should also flash one by one from 1 to 8. If this is the case, it means that the connectivity of the direct connection is fine, otherwise it needs to be redone.
2. Test of interlaced wiring: When testing interlaced wiring, the indicator lights of the main tester should also flash one by one from 1 to 8, and the indicator lights of the remote test end should flash one by one in the order of 3, 6, 1, 4, 5, 2, 7, 8. If so, it means that the interlaced wiring connectivity is fine, otherwise it needs to be redone.
3. If the line sequence at both ends of the network cable is incorrect, the indicator lights of the main tester will still flash one by one from 1 to 8, but the indicator lights of the remote test end will flash one by one in the order of the line numbers connected to the main test. In other words, the remote test end cannot flash in the order of (1) and (2).
How to use the network cable tester
1. In the first step, we need to insert the prepared straight-through cable or crossover cable into these two interfaces respectively.
2. The second step is to turn on the switch here.
3. The third step is an important step to determine whether the network cable is connected. Carefully check the synchronization of the two network cable lights. Note that it is the "synchronous" lighting order.
If it is a straight-through cable, the order in which both sides light up sequentially and synchronously is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
If it is a cross line, the order in which both sides light up sequentially and simultaneously is: 3, 6, 1, 4, 5, 2, 7, 8.
If any lights fail to light up or the order is incorrect, the network cable is not connected and needs to be remade.
Precautions for using the network cable tester
1. When inserting the network cable into the detector, first clean the dirt and rust on the metal contacts of the crystal head, and then insert it into the access port.
2. If the cable tester shows no connection after multiple attempts, you need to check whether the cable tester is damaged or has no power.
