On May 14, according to foreign media The Information, Meta is exploring the development of AI headphones with cameras, hoping that such a device can be used to identify objects and translate foreign languages.
Three "insiders" revealed that the internal name of the project is Camerabuds. It is not clear whether the final design of the product will be in-ear headphones or headphones. However, Meta CEO Zuckerberg has tried several possible device designs, but he is not satisfied with any of the product prototypes.
In addition, insiders said that Meta's leadership had originally expected to formally approve a prototype design in the first quarter of this year, but many testers found a large number of problems, including that long hair may block the camera on the headset, the headset is too heavy/battery life is too short, and heat affects the experience.
In addition to Meta, several other technology companies are also developing AI wearable devices. Several startups including Humane and Rabbit have recently launched their own "AI-specific devices." However, according to previous reports by IT Home, related products have been questioned by the outside world due to subscription fees and "shells."
Meta insiders said that Meta leaders, including Zuckerberg, currently want to speed up the development process of AI headphones because they believe that Meta's competitors will also develop similar devices.
