"Wi-SUN IoT New Ecosystem Seminar" was held at the 2022 Metering Conference
Unicore releases OFDM/FSK concurrent Wi-SUN FAN RF Mesh SoC
Hangzhou – August 3, 2022 – The “2022 Metering Industry Annual Conference” hosted by Global Metering was grandly held in Wuxi from August 2 to 3. Unichip Semiconductor Co., Ltd., together with Wi-SUN Alliance, Silicon Labs, Haixing Electric Power, Lierda IoT Technology, Lihe Information Technology and other Wi-SUN member companies, jointly held the “Wi-SUN Seminar on the New Ecosystem of the Internet of Things” at the conference. Unichip released its new generation Wi-SUN SoC VC7351 at the seminar , which is a Wi-SUN FAN RF Mesh wireless SoC with OFDM/FSK concurrency.
Yang Li, vice president of marketing at Unicore Semiconductor, said that VC7351 is Unicore's latest Wi-SUN SoC and an OFDM high-speed wireless communication chip designed to pass Wi-SUN FAN1.1 certification. The key feature of VC7351 is the concurrency of FSK and OFDM at any data rate. This means that VC7351 not only supports FSK 50/100/150/200/300/400/600 Kbps, 1 Mbps data rate; VC7351 also has Unicore's exclusive FSK/OFDM concurrency, also known as FSK/OFDM auto mode detection, which relies on the Rx's ability to automatically detect the incoming data packet mode, allowing the Tx to freely determine the data packet based on the channel quality, which can effectively improve the transmission rate and routing efficiency.
Yang Li further pointed out that another feature of VC7351 is that it is compatible with Wi-SUN FAN 1.0 and FAN 1.1. Compared with the original FAN 1.0, the new FAN 1.1 features a higher transmission rate. Since FAN 1.1 supports OFDM modulation, the transmission rate can be increased from 150 kbps to 2.4 Mbps, and Unicore's VC7351 can provide a proprietary transmission rate of up to 3.6 Mbps; secondly, FAN 1.1 also supports FSK modulation, and VC7351 can selectively support switching between FSK, OFDM or different transmission rates.
In addition, Wi-SUN FAN 1.1 introduces a complete Limited Function Node (LFN) device specification with lower power consumption, which can support battery-powered devices with a battery life of up to 20 years. It is suitable for applications such as gas and water metering, environmental monitoring, traffic sensing, parking management and weather sensors.
Unicore is a member of the Wi-SUN working group and actively participates in the development of the Wi-SUN FAN 1.1 standard and has participated in the FAN 1.1 Plugfest many times, including FSK and OFDM modulation, and multi-data rate switching modes between FSK and OFDM.
