Rohde & Schwarz unveils 5G broadcast core solution at IBC 2019

Rohde & Schwarz will focus on innovative file-based media solutions and new Ku-band for 5G broadcast technology at IBC 2019Satellite uplink amplifier.

At IBC 2019, Rohde & Schwarz will be exhibiting strategic new products at booth 7.B21 that will have a significant impact on multiple areas, from 5G broadcast core solutions to studio post-production, content mastering, storage and unmanaged network distribution.

One of the greatest 5G broadcast trials is currently underway in Bavaria, Germany. Rohde & Schwarz is a major driving force in the 5G TODAY project and will be updating exhibitors on the latest findings from the trial. Following the trial, Rohde & Schwarz will be showcasing a revolutionary new 5G Broadcast Core solution that will enable its terrestrial transmitters to deliver LTE/5G broadcast content. This landmark new product launch will make Rohde & Schwarz the first technology provider worldwide to offer a complete 5G broadcast solution.

Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its R&S®PKU100 series of satellite solid-state Ku-band uplink amplifiers and add its new 750 W outdoor variant. This model is the first on the market to offer the highest output power in the smallest size. At IBC 2019, live operation will be demonstrated in combination with the latest test and measurement instruments to fully demonstrate its performance.

This series is the first on the market to have both: using adaptive pre-distortion technology to take solid-state amplifiers to a new level with the compactness, light weight and high efficiency of tube amplifiers.

At IBC 2019, Rohde & Schwarz will expand its fully cloud-based Monitoring as a Service (MaaS) solution R&S®PRISMON.cloud to other EU countries. The OTT monitoring solution is aimed at broadcasters and content providers. Flexible and scalable pricing models allow users to reduce their investment. Depending on actual needs, PRISMON.cloud now offers monitoring of SMPTE 2110 internal streams in the control interface, event notification via email and a REST API for integration of status data in network management systems.

The R&S®PRISMON monitoring and IP multiviewer series will benefit from increased SDI/ASI-I/O capacity, enhanced PTP configuration and support for extended color spaces based on SMPTE ST 2110. A range of additional new features further strengthens R&S®PRISMON as the leading multiviewer monitoring solution for modern IP-based studio and post-production environments.

The latest version of R&S®CLIPSTER as a DCI/IMF mastering solution includes the Dolby Vision iCMU (integrated content mapping unit) to facilitate conversion from HDR (high peak brightness) to HDR (low peak brightness) or SDR as well as file transcoding via SDI or HDMI in real time. The continuous development of R&S®VENICE for studio production has enabled the support of HDR-optimized ProRes4444XQ in Rec 2020, where all information about the color space and HDR transfer function is written to the file. R&S®VENICE now supports NMOS IS04/IS05 and supports configuration via web services. IBC will be able to control R&S®VENICE (including FIMS and MOS) completely based on web services.
