In 1956, the state formulated and implemented the "12-year science and technology plan", and Wang Yangyuan was selected as one of the first batch of students majoring in semiconductor physics at Peking University. In that year, the number of members of the Communist Party of China increased to 10.73 million, Zhu Guangya joined the party, Deng Jiaxian joined the party... The belief of advancing science and serving the people also inspired the young Wang Yangyuan. He solemnly wrote an application to join the party: "I have seen the greatness, correctness and glory of the party and its cause, the inevitable victory and arduousness of the party's cause, the party's expectations for young people, and what kind of people the party members are. People should live to benefit the people."
