ETS-Lindgren integrates R&S CMX500 and R&S SMBV100B for 5G A-GNSS antenna performance testing

R&S and ETS-Lindgren collaborate to create a 5G NR A-GNSS antenna performance test solution. In the OTA antenna performance measurement solution, the R&S CMX500 OBT broadband wireless communication tester and the R&S SMBV100B GNSS vector signal generator are used. The R&S test equipment is matched with the CTIA-compliant EMQuest™ antenna measurement software and ETS-Lindgren’s anechoic chamber system. When used, they provide comprehensive 5G NR A-GNSS testing capabilities.
The fifth generation of mobile communications (5G NR) leverages existing and new location-based services such as Assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (A-GNSS), where wireless technology provides information about available satellites, allowing for faster positioning. Satellite positioning remains critical to mobile devices, and GNSS has added additional constellations to improve signal reliability, accuracy and integrity.
R&S CMX500 is a powerful all-in-one wireless communication test machine. A single meter can simultaneously meet the needs of 5G, LTE and Wi-Fi network simulation. It integrates a server based on location services and can work seamlessly with the R&S SMBV100B GNSS simulator. Combined, these two instruments form a powerful solution for LTE and 5G NR A-GNSS testing that meets OTA antenna performance testing requirements and is ideally suited for ETS-Lindgren’s EMQuest antenna measurement software.
The R&S SMBV100B can simulate all possible navigation satellite constellations at any time and geographical location, while the R&S CMX500 supports LTE and 5G NR cellular network simulation. The R&S CMX500 also supports the transmission of A-GNSS assistance data messages via the control plane (LPP over RRC) and the secure user plane (SUPL). The integrated R&S CMX500 OBT and R&S SMBV100B can be used to perform critical GNSS OTA tests, which are essential for certifying and evaluating positioning performance in smartphones, automotive and high-precision applications. ETS-Lindgren has a global network of OTA systems driven by its EMQuest antenna measurement software, which combines these capabilities to create a comprehensive 5G NR A-GNSS antenna performance solution.
The R&S CMX500 broadband wireless communication tester is a universal test platform for signaling and RF parameter testing of commercial wireless equipment. In addition to testing protocol stack characteristics for location-based services and A-GNSS operation, the R&S CMX500 also supports comprehensive data performance and PoLQA voice quality measurements. The internal fading simulator makes it easy to complete testing under real wireless signal transmission conditions.
