Brushless DC motors use electronic commutation instead of mechanical commutation, so they not only have good speed regulation performance of brushed DC motors, but also have small size and high efficiency. They have been widely used in many fields. After adopting position sensorless control technology, not only many disadvantages of external position sensors are overcome, but also the application field of brushless DC motors is further broadened. At present, position sensorless control of brushless DC motors has become a development direction of brushless DC motor control technology. This article reviews the rise, development and current status of brushless DC motors, summarizes the current level of position sensorless brushless DC motor control technology and some problems encountered, and takes the research and development of DC variable speed air conditioners as the background, and conducts a relatively comprehensive study and discussion on some problems encountered in the study of brushless DC motor variable speed control from both theoretical and practical aspects.
