This paper introduces the basic functions of ATmega128 microcontroller and designs a permanent magnet brushless DC motor control system with it as the core. Taking full advantage of its fast computing speed and rich on-chip peripherals, PWM is used to realize the position and speed control of brushless DC motors, and the overall design scheme and corresponding software strategy are given. Traditional brushless DC motor control systems are generally composed of discrete analog devices. Analog control systems are easy to use, cheap and widely used. However, analog devices also have essential defects: component characteristic parameters are affected by temperature; device aging; inconvenient maintenance and inability to upgrade. With the continuous improvement of microprocessor performance, digital control systems with it as the core are gradually being applied to the control of brushless DC motors and have achieved very good results. It will eventually replace analog control systems. ATmega128 microcontroller is an enhanced, built-in Flash, reduced instruction set CPU (RISC), high-performance, low-power CMOS microprocessor developed by ATMEL. It integrates a wealth of peripherals on the chip, greatly simplifies the hardware circuit of the control system, improves the performance of the system, and can meet the requirements of the motor control system. This paper discusses the ATmega128 microcontroller control system of the brushless DC motor and the control strategy of the brushless DC motor.
