Traditional distance gating circuits mostly use discrete components, and their operating frequency and control accuracy are very limited, making it difficult to meet the needs of high repetition rate distance measurement. By analyzing the timing of high repetition rate distance gating, a high repetition rate distance gating circuit method based on FPGA is proposed and implemented. This method gives full play to the advantages of FPGA in operation, storage, clock management, etc.: the 200MHZ generated by the frequency multiplication module is used as the clock reference, and its gated output resolution reaches 5NS; the enhanced parallel port (ENHANCED PARALLEL PORT, referred to as EPP) is used for gated data transmission to ensure 2KHZ high-speed gated signal output. The completed distance gating board has been applied in the high repetition rate (2KHZ) satellite laser ranging (SATELLITE LASER RANGING, referred to as SLR) experiment of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, making Shanghai Astronomical Observatory one of the few stations in the world that master high repetition rate SLR technology.
